I wasn\u2019t sure what to think of Ellie\u2019s behavior.\u00a0<\/p>\n
She was so angry when she caught me in her room, maybe angrier than I\u2019d ever seen her. But the very next day, it was like nothing had happened.\u00a0<\/p>\n
She was so hot and cold lately, it was confusing\u2014unless I allowed myself to believe what was starting to seem like the only explanation for everything that had been happening:\u00a0<\/p>\n
Ellie had to be pregnant.\u00a0<\/p>\n
But the last couple of days, she had seemed\u2026 normal. Not quite her old self again, but less hostile at least. I wouldn\u2019t say she was happy to see me at any point, but I no longer got the feeling that she wanted to vomit just from the sight of me.\u00a0<\/p>\n
And it didn\u2019t make sense. Unless she was having mood swings or something like that.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Then there were the multivitamins. I knew those were something that could be related to pregnancy. And the bottle of iron pills I\u2019d found only seemed to drive the idea home.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cNolan,\u201d Felicity said, sighing dramatically, \u201cyou\u2019re spaced out again.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYes,\u201d I muttered. \u201cI was thinking.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThinking about what?\u201d she asked, moving closer to me on the couch.\u00a0<\/p>\n
There was work that I could be doing at the moment, but I had promised Felicity that I would take some time off. There was some ridiculous romance movie she\u2019d been talking my ear off about.\u00a0<\/p>\n
So we were spending a few hours this afternoon curled up on the couch in the living room, while she watched her movie and I let my mind spiral about all of the problems that I should be addressing while I was sitting here wasting time.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cDo you know any reason why someone would need to take iron pills?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cIron pills? No\u2026 I mean, unless they\u2019re anemic or something?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cCould it have anything to do with a pregnancy?\u201d I asked.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Felicity looked at me, wide-eyed for a moment. Then she laughed and shook her head.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cNo. I don\u2019t know what an iron pill could possibly have to do with pregnancy.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
I hummed in response-a noncommittal noise-as I turned my attention back toward the screen.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Maybe Ellie was just regretting the plan to divorce me. Maybe she was trying to win me over before the contract\u00a0<\/p>\n
ran out.\u00a0<\/p>\n
If she was pregnant, that would be a good reason for her to want to back out of the divorce.\u00a0<\/p>\n
But if that was the case\u2026 why wouldn\u2019t she just tell me?\u00a0<\/p>\n
She had to know that a pregnancy would change everything\u00a0<\/p>\n
Was this an ego thing for her? Did she want to win me over on her own merits instead of accepting that the only reason I would keep her around was for my heir?\u00a0<\/p>\n
There was a knock at the front door of the pack house. A moment later, my Beta appeared, accompanied by a tall,\u00a0<\/p>\n

The man wore round glasses, which he adjusted nervously as he looked at me.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Nolan was thinking about Ellie again-that much was obvious to Felicity. He was constantly distracted lately, and the only explanation was that it had to do with her.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The drama Ellie was constantly stirring up, her behavior, it was all designed to lure him back in, and Felicity just didn\u2019t understand why he couldn\u2019t see that.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Why was he falling for her games?\u00a0<\/p>\n
Nolan was supposed to be smarter than this.\u00a0<\/p>\n
They finally had an end in sight for the ridiculous game they\u2019d been playing these last few years, and it felt like she was the only one who was happy about it.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Nolan should be thrilled to finally get rid of Ellie-to no longer be tied to that horrible, pathetic little rogue. But\u00a0<\/p>\n

He was sitting here with Felicity in his arms, and his mind was a million miles away.\u00a0<\/p>\n
