I kept my arm locked around Ellie\u2019s waist as I pulled her away from Kieran and back toward the party. The rumble of anger in my chest was barely contained and I could smell Kieran\u2019s cologne lingering around her which only made it worse.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat the hell was that about?\u201d Ellie asked, glaring up at me.\u00a0<\/p>\n
She made no attempt to pull out of my arms, but I knew that was only because people were watching. Of course they were. I had just growled at a guest.\u00a0<\/p>\n
What the hell is wrong with me? Why did I care so much that he was touching Ellie?\u00a0<\/p>\n
Because it was disrespectful-and I can\u2019t stomach disrespect from Kieran. That\u2019s the obvious answer.\u00a0<\/p>\n
And yet\u2026 I felt like I was spiraling.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The last thing I wanted was to let go of Ellie. I kept my hand firmly on her waist as we moved away from the crowd.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI told you last time to stay away from him,\u201d I said, keeping my voice low and even.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI was just talking to him. You\u2019re the one who\u2019s off dancing with someone else.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI told you last time to stay away from other men entirely. Are you intentionally trying to embarrass me?\u201d I demanded.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cIs that a joke?\u201d Ellie snapped, anger flashing in her eyes. \u201cYou\u2019re out there with Felicity hanging all over you, but me talking to someone else is the problem? You really think that\u2019s what everybody here noticed? Me talking to Kieran, and not Felicity drooling all over you on the dance floor?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cKeep your voice down.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd keep your damn hands to yourself,\u201d she said sharply.\u00a0<\/p>\n
She shoved my hand away and stormed off toward the bathroom.\u00a0<\/p>\n
I let her go.\u00a0<\/p>\n
If we continued to argue, all it would do was draw more attention.\u00a0<\/p>\n
And that was the last thing we needed.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cSir?\u201d a beta approached me cautiously.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cKeep an eye on her. At all times. If Kieran or any other ma gets near her, I want to know immediately.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Ellie POV\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI mean seriously, who the hell does he think he is?\u201d I said angrily into the phone.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWell, he is the Alpha,\u201d Rae responded matter-of-factly.\u00a0<\/p>\n
I groaned in frustration as I made my way up the stairs.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThat doesn\u2019t mean he gets to do whatever he wants. It doesn\u2019t mean he gets to treat me like I\u2019m his property,\u201d I retorted. \u201cI mean, he\u2019s being completely paranoid. He\u2019s the one who\u2019s cheating, not me.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s probably all it is,\u201d Rae replied. \u201cHe\u2019s projecting. He knows he\u2019s guilty, so he assumes you are too.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYeah, you\u2019re probably right. Doesn\u2019t make me any less angry.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cOf course it doesn\u2019t. He\u2019s being a creep.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYeah\u2026 look, I\u2019m going to lay down and try to take a nap. This is all stressing me out so much.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cNo problem. Get some sleep, we\u2019ll talk soon,\u201d Rae said understandingly before hanging up.\u00a0<\/p>\n
I shoved my phone into my pocket and walked into my bedroom-but froze right there in the doorway.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Nolan was standing beside my bed, two pill bottles in his hands. He had taken them from my nightstand drawer. My multivitamin and the iron supplement I had recently started taking.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat the hell are you doing?\u201d I demanded, snapping out of my trance and surging forward to snatch the bottles from his hands. \u201cWhy are you going through my things?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWhy are you hiding things?\u201d Nolan responded, his voice far too calm for my liking.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m not hiding anything! I keep my medication in my nightstand so I can take it before bed. Is that a crime?\u201d I snapped, holding the bottles tightly and keeping the labels covered-though I knew he had already read them.\u00a0<\/p>\n
