\u201cI still don\u2019t understand why I can\u2019t go with you,\u201d Felicity said with an exaggerated pout.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYes, you do,\u201d I replied coldly.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Felicity crossed her arms and sighed. \u201cFine. I\u2019ll go by myself-just promise you won\u2019t ignore me all night.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYou know I won\u2019t.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
We were preparing to leave the pack house for a small party I was hosting. The attendees would be high-ranking members of our pack and others. For the sake of appearances, I had to arrive with Ellie, and Felicity knew it.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWe still have the Alpha of the Moonstone pack staying with us. You need to be on your best behavior,\u201d I reminded Felicity again.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThey\u2019ve been here for so long,\u201d she said with a sigh. \u201cI\u2019m so sick of not being able to touch you when I want to.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
I raised an eyebrow at her statement. Her casual attitude around me was part of what had caused this issue. After her little stunt during her interview, the scrutiny on myself and Ellie had only gotten worse.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Rumors about tension in our marriage were growing. As careless as Felicity was about showing off our\u00a0<\/p>\n
relationship, she had always been mindful of who was around when she behaved that way. Only our closest friends and associates witnessed the way she would cling to me. The pack at large didn\u2019t know there was anything amiss with my marriage.\u00a0<\/p>\n
But they knew now, thanks to her stunt.\u00a0<\/p>\n
So we had to be more careful. I knew that she understood that, which only made her whining now all the more annoying to me.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd they\u2019ll be here for a few more months,\u201d I informed her. \u201cUntil the deal is finalized.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cMonths?\u201d she groaned. \u201cIs it really going to be that long?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThree months,\u201d I confirmed. \u201cAnd then all of this will be behind us.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWell, at least it\u2019ll finally be over,\u201d she said. \u201cAll of it, right? You\u2019ll finally divorce Ellie?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYes. My deal with Ellie will be over,\u201d I confirmed. \u201cOnce the deal with the Moonstone pack is finalized, they\u2019ll return home and I\u2019ll get divorced.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Saying the words out loud brought a smile to Felicity\u2019s face but the feeling it stirred in my chest was something far less certain.\u00a0<\/p>\n
My deal with Ellie was crystal clear. There would be no reason not to go through with the divorce. But I no longer felt relieved by the idea.\u00a0<\/p>\n
It was too late to back out now, though. And it wasn\u2019t as though I wanted to keep Ellie around for any emotional reason. I just couldn\u2019t quite put my finger on why the idea was suddenly bothering me,\u00a0<\/p>\n
So I did my best to put it out of my mind.\u00a0<\/p>\n
It probably had something to do with my suspicions about assian\u2019s intentions toward Ellie. It wasn\u2019t that I was jealous that another man was interested in her. But it was disrespectful for him to behave the way he did about another Alpha\u2019s wife-especially while he was staying under my roof.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He always seemed to be watching her. Looking for any excuse to be near her.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cNolan,\u201d Felicity said, irritated. \u201cI said I\u2019m going now-di you hear me?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYes. I\u2019ll see you there,\u201d I replied dismissively.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019re so distracted lately,\u201d she said, her voice tight.\u00a0<\/p>\n
I looked at Felicity fully. She was dressed in a beautiful red own that showed off her curves. Her hair and makeup were done perfectly. She must have spent hours getting ready, and here I was, barely acknowledging her.\u00a0<\/p>\n
I bent and kissed the top of her head quickly. It was the closest thing to an apology she\u2019d get, and she seemed to accept that.\u00a0<\/p>\n
