\u201cHe sounds pretty serious about that,\u201d Rae said thoughtfully.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cSo you really don\u2019t like cheaters?\u201d I asked skeptically.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cOf course not,\u201d Lance responded. \u201cThere\u2019s nothing worse than somebody who would betray your trust like that.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cHow\u2019d you like to prove that?\u201d Rae gave me a curious look I smiled as I caught on to her idea.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cHow would I do that?\u201d Lance asked.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cHelp us expose this cheater before our friend ends up married to him,\u201d I suggested.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a great idea!\u201d Rae said excitedly. \u201cIf we can find some kind of proof, then Steph won\u2019t go through with it!\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYou want me to help expose your friend\u2019s cheating fianc\u00e9 o prove that I\u2019m not a cheater?\u201d Lance asked incredulously.\u00a0<\/p>\n
I shrugged. \u201cYeah, you got a problem with that?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYour logic doesn\u2019t make any sense,\u201d Lance said, shaking his head. \u201cBut if this guy is really a scumbag who\u2019s cheating on his fianc\u00e9e, then he deserves to be exposed. Som in.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Rae made a little excited noise and clapped her hands. \u201cAwesome! I don\u2019t think I could handle two of my best friends being married to cheating bastards. Oh-no offense Lance.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cNo, my brother is a cheating bastard,\u201d Lance replied with a slight smirk. \u201cDon\u2019t worry about insulting him in front of me.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
That made me laugh out loud, and the laughter rippled through the room, the three of us sharing a rare moment\u00a0<\/p>\n
of camaraderie.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cSeems like we actually have something in common after all,\u201d I said, smiling at Lance.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He seemed to freeze for a moment before returning the smile.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYeah\u2026 I guess we actually do.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

The sound of laughter coming from the living room was unexpected, mainly because of the addition of Lance\u2019s voice.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The staff and betas in the pack house had grown accustomed to Rae and Ellie spending their afternoons together, eating lunch or talking in hushed tones. Their voices were beginning to blend into the background.\u00a0<\/p>\n
But Lance\u2019s voice still gave them pause.\u00a0<\/p>\n
It was so strange to everyone who worked for Nolan that Lance was spending so much time around his brother. It was well known that he couldn\u2019t stand him. The fact that Lance was now apparently voluntarily spending time in the pack house was already cause for speculation.\u00a0<\/p>\n
And now\u2026 hearing him laughing with Ellie?\u00a0<\/p>\n
It was almost too much.\u00a0<\/p>\n
One of the betas stood just outside the doorway, listening as the three of them talked. He couldn\u2019t quite follow what they were saying-something about some drama with one of Ellie\u2019s friends-but it was the way the three of\u00a0<\/p>\n

Knowing the way Lance felt about his brother, the idea of him and Ellie getting close could only result in problems.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The beta was torn on whether or not he should tell Nolan about this. The Alpha had been on edge lately with all the dealings surrounding the Moonstone pack, and he wasn\u2019t sure Nolan would react well to being disturbed with something like this.\u00a0<\/p>\n
At the same time, if something was happening between Lance and Ellie, and it resulted in more drama down the line, the Alpha might be angry that he wasn\u2019t warned ahead of time.\u00a0<\/p>\n
It was a difficult position to be in. He needed to make a decision that wouldn\u2019t anger the Alpha.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He stood there a moment longer, listening to Lance\u2019s voice the warm, friendly tone of it as he spoke to Ellie.\u00a0<\/p>\n
And it unsettled him.\u00a0<\/p>\n
