Nolan\u2019s careful planning was something I couldn\u2019t criticize when I saw how beautifully the party was going.\u00a0<\/p>\n
I was dressed in my baby\u2013blue dress with the slit, my hair done up carefully and my makeup perfect. As I walked into the party, I received immediate attention, which I hadn\u2019t really expected.\u00a0<\/p>\n
People turned and looked at me \u2013 some stared in shock, others immediately turned to gossip with the people standing near them. I could hear the whispers as people looked at me and even managed to catch a few words.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cShe looks incredible,\u201d one person said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cMuch better than I\u2019ve ever seen her,\u201d another answered.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cIs her relationship with the Alpha better?\u201d someone asked curiously.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cShe looks so confident \u2013 don\u2019t they seem close?\u201d someone else said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Nolan was beside me, his arm linked with mine, walking close as he nodded and greeted people as we passed. But not everyone seemed convinced by our act.\u00a0<\/p>\n
I could hear others whispering, \u201cThey\u2019re just putting on a show,\u201d or, \u201cLook at the way she\u2019s throwing herself at him.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
I felt Nolan stiffen just slightly as we walked, and I followed his line of sight to a group of men standing together, their eyes glued to me as we passed by.\u00a0<\/p>\n
I tightened my grip on Nolan\u2019s arm, leaning just a little more into him with a smile on my face, really trying to sell the happy\u2013couple vibe we were going for. I smiled at the men as they watched me pass.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Nolan spoke suddenly, his voice low, only for my ears. \u201cYou\u2019re not allowed to look at other men,\u201d he said tensely.\u00a0<\/p>\n
I raised an eyebrow at Nolan, surprised. Was he trying to control that too? Was this part of the contract I\u2019d just missed?\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWhy not?\u201d I asked.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cDo you have any idea how bad it will look for my image if my Luna is checking out other men?\u201d he answered sharply. \u201cJust stay with me. Remember \u2013 you\u2019re my wife.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI know my role,\u201d I replied. His sudden jealousy surprised me. I wasn\u2019t sure what to make of it. Nolan still had that icy look in his eyes but it seemed different somehow.\u00a0<\/p>\n
I didn\u2019t want to overthink it though. We agreed that I would play the role and make him look good in front of the other alphas, so arguing with him right now wasn\u2019t really an option. I just held his arm and kept my eyes away from the men who were staring.\u00a0<\/p>\n
I stayed close to Nolan as we walked deeper into the party. He made his greetings, introducing me to a number of people who seemed vaguely familiar, but I couldn\u2019t remember them.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He grabbed two glasses of wine, and I held mine, swirled it, smelled it \u2013 but didn\u2019t take a drink. Nolan seemed distracted and didn\u2019t notice that I was pretending, sipping his own wine as he chatted with others.\u00a0<\/p>\n

I snacked on hors d\u2019oeuvres as he talked. I was bored, but mostly I was hungry. The smell of the delicious food was filling the room and it made my mouth water. I knew it was because of the pregnancy, so I tried to be discreet as I took food from the trays that passed by us.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Nolan didn\u2019t seem to notice at all. No one did. Other than checking out my dress, people weren\u2019t really paying attention to me.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Some time passed like that before we finally had a second alone. I pulled my arm away from his, only because it was sore from holding that position for so long, but Nolan immediately snapped his head toward me, looking irritated.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI can pretend in front of other people, but I\u2019m tired of acting right now. Give me a second,\u201d I said in response to his angry expression.\u00a0<\/p>\n
