I had seen the panic in her eyes, and noticed how impossible it was for her to move even an

inch or breathe.

Her once creamy skin had become so pale, so white and covered in sweat that it made her look like a real time vampire from the movie: Twilight.

But that wasn’t what scared me the most.

What scared me the most was her eyes. Usually purple. Usually warm. But a few minutes ago, they had shone with a strange white light and were so cold, if I didn’t know her better, I would’ve thought she was about to murder half of us present in her ward.

-And I fear that she is strong enough to murder us at this point.

My hands grew clammy from balling them into fists over and over and over again… until…

“Jarek?” My head shot up when I heard someone call my name.

However, I instinctively frowned when I was met with a familiar pair of mischievous eyes that I didn’t want to see right now.

Her mouth fell open as if in awe, and then she stalked close, swaying her hips slowly as she approached me.

As soon as her manicured fingers touched my chin, I stepped back, and I felt my wolf stir in outrage. She probably felt it too because then she took a step back, her wide eyes apologetic as she muttered;

“I’m sorry, Jarek.”

“I don’t want to listen to what you have to say Keisha.” I bit out coldly.

My hands balled into fists by my sides- and this was partly because deep down, it was itching to get wrapped around her neck, squeezing tight until her eyes bulged.

She glanced at me wearily then took another step back, her expression careful as she

15:09

O

Г

1/5

<

156 Like her.

said; “I’m not here to annoy you.”

“I don’t care what you’re here for.”

you

“I just wanted to know why you’re at the hospital. Are ill?”

At her words, I turned to look at her- more like glare at her- and turned away, my

frown deep as I whispered;

“It’s none of your business.”

“I heard that there is a girl in that ward,” she drawled, pointing at the same spot where Leilani’s ward was as she spoke. “I heard that her condition is not so good…” she added. and then dropping her voice until it was barely above a whisper, she looked at me and continued; “…and that all the werewolf doctors are on deck, but she doesn’t seem to be feeling any better.”

I rolled my eyes. The last thing I wanted right now was to listen to her stupid gossip, especially since the person involved was my Leilani.

I turned away from her to continue pacing around the hall, but then she joined in, her voice small but cold as she advised; “Just so you know, I may know what’s wrong with

her.”

“I don’t care.”

“I know it’s the girl I found in your office the other day… and that ‘s probably the reason you do not want to talk to me about it. But Jarek, she is a freak. I don’t know what kind of freak she is but she’s one… and I can feel it in my bones.” She added, but still, I made no attempt to listen to her.

And then she stopped. “You can get her some scented candles… drop some chamomile in them and let it burn. It’ll make her body calm… calm enough to stop rejecting treatment, and maybe calm enough that she doesn’t tear down the entire hospital

soon.”

And that… that had me freezing.

My eyes widened slightly as I turned to face her, and to my utmost surprise, she was smiling at me, her eyes warm but there was a hint of something in them.

Was that fear… was that sadness? Or regret of pain?

Her voice broke slightly when she spoke again, and this time, I couldn’t help but notice the slight tremor in her hands as she whispered; “If you had been there for me the way

15:09

2/5

156 Like her.

you are here for this new girl, then I wouldn’t have derailed so much.”

“Keisha.”

“You swore that you loved me then. You swore that you would always be there for me, but when I started showing signs of being different, what did you do? You weren’t

there.”

“You and I know that that was a lie.” I growled my hands tightening in rage. “You know for a fact that I cared so much, I even made you live with my parents and I.

“Yes, you gave me food, you gave me shelter. You treated me like I was some broken doll but were you ever there when I had episodes like that?!”she seethed, pointing again at Leilani’s ward.

And upon hearing that, I felt my anger intensify. “Are you saying this shit because of that one time that I was out of the country with my father?” I asked, and when she rolled her eyes, I snorted.

Typical Keisha character.

“Please grow a pair, Keisha.” I said slowly. Now my voice had dropped so much, but managing to insert every ice I could muster into my tone, I continued; “I made sure my sister stayed with you at the hospital! I even forced my mother to leave her duties and remain by your side all through… and this is all you have to say?” I snarled, but before I could finish, she rolled her eyes again and spat;

“Yes you did! But they were not you!”

I shook my head.”I don’t care what you think anymore.”

“That girl will be the end of you!” She spat venomously and I could only smile… because what else was there to do besides that?

“She’s not you.” I bit back, not missing the way her jaws dropped nor the way she recoiled as if struck by my words.

She opened her mouth as if to say something else, but I couldn’t wait to listen anymore. Not when Leilani needed me… not when one of my greatest fears had been

‘somewhat’ confirmed.

I stumbled forward, running out of the hospital to find the nearest spice shop… or anything like that, as long as I could get my hands on Chamomile and some scented candles.

It took me a few minutes to finally get one and when I did, I rushed back to the

15:10

။

<

3/5

<

156 Like her.

hospital, got into Leilani’s ward despite the way the doctors tried to get me out of there and then I lit the combo.

My eyes widened when she exhaled loudly and then began to jerk violently before going limp.

The doctors then turned to me in shock, their eyes widening as they stared between me and the lit candle; but I wasn’t paying any attention to them. My eyes were on Leilani’s fingers and I noticed to my horror that they were elongated- almost paw-like and behind them were the most beautiful mass of silver fur I’ve ever seen in my life.

Ps: I’ve never seen one before. I always thought they were myths.

I covered it before anyone else could see it and then told the doctors to leave before sending a quick text to Orion.

It read:

There’s a bottle of half drunk water in my office on the table. It may contain some

DNA. I need it tested.

With that, I dropped my phone and turned to Leilani, my heart racing at the thought of what was happening to her.

Indeed she was a freak. A weird one. And right now, I couldn’t help but wonder if it was the reason her parents had tried to suppress her wolf for so long.

But if it was, then why the fuck is none of her siblings like her?

4/5

15:10

Healing Slowly But Surely By R.
