Every date, he got bored and gamed with Eva late into the night.<\/p>\n
When we traveled, he insisted on bringing Eva to “liven the atmosphere.”<\/p>\n
Her chat was pinned to the top of his phone with a special sound.<\/p>\n
Valentine’s Day gifts always included a portion for Eva because “it’s pathetic<\/p>\n
for her to be single.”<\/p>\n
If I questioned it, he flew into a rage.<\/p>\n
“Are you addicted to making trouble? Let’s just break up!”<\/p>\n
“Don’t think you can control me just because your dad has money!”<\/p>\n
I had always been humble as dust before him.<\/p>\n
Sensitive. Suspicious. Stupid. The labels he gave me.<\/p>\n
Even when my dad introduced clients, Miles twisted it into an insult to his<\/p>\n
abilities.<\/p>\n
The next day was the school’s centennial.<\/p>\n
Miles and Eva attended as guests.<\/p>\n
The host jokingly asked, “You two look so talented and beautiful, could you<\/p>\n
be a couple?”<\/p>\n
Miles swept a cold glance at me. I looked away.<\/p>\n
Eva put her hand on his shoulder. “Do we look like it? Actually, we are bro\u2014”<\/p>\n
Miles suddenly embraced her waist. “That’s right, we already have a baby.”<\/p>\n
The audience erupted in cheers.<\/p>\n
Whispers started behind me. “I heard a shameless follower pestered him for<\/p>\n
three years… finally, that follower succeeded.”<\/p>\n
“If it weren’t for her family’s money, would a straw bag like her be worthy?”<\/p>\n
I turned to look straight at them. “Are you done? Say it to my face.”<\/p>\n
They muttered, “We didn’t name names. You’re assuming”<\/p>\n
Miles and Eva sat down next to me.<\/p>\n
Eva hypocritically advised, “Bianca, you are too sensitive.”<\/p>\n
Miles sneered. “Sick in the head!”<\/p>\n
With their backing, the gossips gained confidence. “Exactly, looking for<\/p>\n
trouble.”<\/p>\n
Just then, the host invited me up to speak.<\/p>\n
I stood up. Eva stuck her leg out and tripped me.<\/p>\n
“Bang!” I fell heavily.<\/p>\n
Pain attacked my body. My face burned. My fingertips came away stained<\/p>\n
with blood.<\/p>\n
The venue fell silent.<\/p>\n
“Junior Bianca is just too excited?” someone laughed.<\/p>\n
Miles scolded me in a low voice, “Get up! You’re embarrassing us!”<\/p>\n
Eva pretended to help. “Bianca, don’t be willful on such an occasion.”<\/p>\n
My anger exploded. I slapped her hand away.<\/p>\n
“Stop pretending! Eva, why did you trip me?”<\/p>\n
“Ah!” She fell backward, clutching her stomach.<\/p>\n
“Bianca! I tried to help you! Why push me? What if you hurt the baby?”<\/p>\n
\u201cWomen are such a hassle! If it weren’t for Miles’ sake, I’d really give you a<\/p>\n
piece of my mind today!\u201d<\/p>\n
She turned to Miles. “Control your woman. I’m sick of these women fighting<\/p>\n
out of jealousy!”<\/p>\n
I laughed in anger. I saw her smirk of success.<\/p>\n
I forced myself up, raising my hand to slap her.<\/p>\n
Miles lunged and backhanded me across the face.<\/p>\n
My vision went black. The venue exploded into chaos.<\/p>\n
Miles wiped the blood from his hand in disgust. “Bianca, get the hell out!”<\/p>\n
I stared at him blankly.<\/p>\n
