My chest felt tight and suffocating.<\/p>\n
I turned and walked toward the door. Just as I reached the elevator, my wrist<\/p>\n
was violently yanked back.<\/p>\n
Miles gripped my wrist, his brow furrowed. “I’ve explained, Eva is just my<\/p>\n
friend! She just wants to give birth safely.”<\/p>\n
“You should be grateful Eva has no intention of marrying me!”<\/p>\n
“Even she, an illegitimate daughter, has such grace. As the Harper family<\/p>\n
heir, why are you so petty?”<\/p>\n
I looked up and glared at him, my voice trembling.<\/p>\n
“Miles, what does this have to do with grace or being petty?”<\/p>\n
Tears swirled in my eyes. “You are a top finance student. I can’t out-talk<\/p>\n
you…”<\/p>\n
I paused, lowered my head, my tone filled with exhaustion. “Let’s break up.”<\/p>\n
Tears smashed onto the back of my hand.<\/p>\n
Miles was stunned. He loosened his grip, sounding helpless.<\/p>\n
“How about this: I’ll take three days a week to care for Eva, and come home<\/p>\n
for the remaining four. Is that acceptable?”<\/p>\n
He emphasized his tone. “Bianca, this is my final concession. Don’t push<\/p>\n
your luck!”<\/p>\n
I took a deep breath.<\/p>\n
“No need. After we break up, you can stay with her every day. Don’t waste<\/p>\n
time on me.”<\/p>\n
He stared at me intensely. “Are you sure?”<\/p>\n
I turned my face away and pressed the elevator button.<\/p>\n
He suddenly sneered and shoved me hard. “Fine, keep acting up!”<\/p>\n
Caught off guard, I stumbled backward, slamming heavily against the wall. I<\/p>\n
gasped in pain.<\/p>\n
Miles glanced at me with disgust, turned around, and walked away.<\/p>\n
Eva stood at the door, deliberately shouting, “Miles, speak nicely! Girls are<\/p>\n
cute when they throw tantrums. You have to coax her!”<\/p>\n
Miles draped his arm around her. “Let her be. She has thick skin.”<\/p>\n
“She chased me for three years. No matter how much I scolded her, she<\/p>\n
wouldn’t leave. She likes suffering”<\/p>\n
He squeezed Eva’s arm and smirked. “She’s troublesome. It’s much more<\/p>\n
comfortable with you.”<\/p>\n
Eva twisted her body dramatically and poked his chest.<\/p>\n
Miles scoffed, “Tch,” and deliberately placed his hand on her chest. “So flat.<\/p>\n
Can you even be called a woman?”<\/p>\n
Laughing and playing, they slammed the door shut.<\/p>\n
The world seemed to mute, leaving only the sound of my rapid heartbeat.<\/p>\n
Each beat felt like a hammer smashing against my chest.<\/p>\n
The elevator finally arrived. I frantically pressed the close button.<\/p>\n
