Not long after, Eliza and Taylor rejoined us outside, Eliza with a small bag. She smiled at me and then turned to her mate to say her goodbyes to him.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Eliza nodded with understanding in her eyes.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI figured you wouldn\u2019t pull me away if it weren\u2019t important,\u201d she told him.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Once we were all in the car and Gavin had pulled the car onto the road, we filled Eliza in on everything that had happened. I even told Gavin the entire story about my conversation with Levi, and though he doesn\u2019t trust Levi, he doesn\u2019t think he would lie about something like this, so we had no other choice but to believe him.\u00a0<\/p>\n
My heart was racing in my chest because I wasn\u2019t sure what to expect. If I didn\u2019t already know that the Blackwells were my actual birth family, I would think that I was about to meet my mom for the first time. This was a woman whom I fully believed was my mother for most of my life, even though I had never met her.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Gavin reached over and touched my hand. I flipped my hand over so he could intertwine his fingers through mine, and then he gave my hand a gentle squeeze. I felt warmth all over my body, and I couldn\u2019t help but look up at him as he drove.\u00a0<\/p>\n
At some point, I must have fallen asleep because I woke to Gavin peppering small kisses along the nape of my neck. I opened my eyes, groggily, and looked around. It was still dark outside, and when I looked at the time, it read just after 11 pm. I crinkled my nose and stared around the parking lot we were sitting in.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWhere are we?\u201d I asked.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWe stopped at the gas station,\u201d he told me, motioning with his head towards the little store. \u201cEliza needed to use the restroom. We\u2019ll be in Yellowstone in about 20 minutes.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
I nodded and leaned into him, loving his proximity.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is going to work, right?\u201d I asked, sitting down at my hands. \u201cMy magic, I mean? I\u2019ll be able to control it eventually?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
I wasn\u2019t sure why I was asking him these questions because I knew he didn\u2019t know the answer, but the way he answered left me with no doubt in my mind that I\u2019ll be able to figure this out in due time.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYes,\u201d he said, his voice full of conviction. \u201cThere\u2019s nothing you can\u2019t do, Judy.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
We kissed a few times, letting our lips glide along with one another and breathing the same air, grounding our\u00a0<\/p>\n

Some bowed at the sight of the powerful Lycan chairpersons, and Gavin didn\u2019t seem to take much notice of them. He went straight to the Nurses\u2019 station and told her that he was there to see Megan Churchill.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Usually, it was after visiting hours, and anyone else would be declined. Still, Gavin wasn\u2019t just anyone\u2026 he was the most powerful Lycan Chairman and had a reputation, even in Neutral territories. 1\u00a0<\/p>\n
She gave Gavin Meg\u2019s room number and told him it was on the third floor. He took hold of my hand and guided me down the hallway until we reached the elevators.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cShe\u2019s been in a coma for 23 years,\u201d Eliza said, hugging her bag to the side of her body with one arm. \u201cYou should prepare yourself for what you\u2019re about to see.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The elevator door opened, and we stepped out; I followed Gavin down the long hallway until we reached the door that read \u201cMegan Churchill.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
