My gut twisted, but I kept my expression neutral.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m not here for small talk,\u201d I tell him. \u201cI\u2019m here to find out about Meg Churchill. I know she\u2019s still alive, but she\u2019s been deemed missing. I also know that you\u2019ve visited her at the hospital before.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
His smile slowly faded. That alone told me I was right.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Levi leaned back in his chair, the chains on his wrists clinking softly against the metal table. He studied me the way someone studies a chessboard, deciding which piece to sacrifice.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019re much sharper than I remembered,\u201d he murmured.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cDon\u2019t change the subject,\u201d I said through my teeth; I didn\u2019t particularly like talking to the man who had used and betrayed me and I wanted this conversation to be over sooner than later.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cAlright, fine,\u201d Levi said, rolling his eyes. \u201cYou are no fun. Yes, I went to see Meg at the hospital a few times for different reasons. Periodically, I have to sign a consent form to keep her on life support. Without my updated signature, they\u2019d pull the plug.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cMeg is on life support?\u201d I asked, disbelief in my tone. \u201cWhat happened to her?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cShe\u2019s been on the run for a long time, and just when she was about to be caught\u2026 she got into a car accident. Almost killed herself, but my family had managed to put her on life support to preserve her body.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was a disgrace to our family,\u201d Levi said, rolling his eyes. \u201cShe could never just follow the rules and play her part. She\u2019s made plenty of enemies\u2026 those who want her gone.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThen why keep her alive for all these years? Why not just pull the plug and let her die if she was such a disgrace?\u201d I asked, shaking my head as this information sank in. It didn\u2019t make any sense for them to keep her alive if they hated her so much.\u00a0<\/p>\n
They clearly didn\u2019t want Meg in their lives.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cBecause of the curse,\u201d Levi muttered. \u201cIf it weren\u2019t for the curse, she would have been dead a long time ago.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat curse?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cYou ask a lot of questions, but I think it\u2019s time for you to do something for me if you want me to talk more about this,\u201d Levi said, a smirk appearing on his lips.\u00a0<\/p>\n
I pressed my lips into a thin line and narrowed my eyes at him.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m not doing anything for you,\u201d I told him, finality in my tone.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He let out a laugh.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThen I guess we are done here.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

I folded my arms across my chest, not in the mood for his games. I almost called Gavin back in this room so he could make Levi talk, but I wasn\u2019t sure if I trusted Levi to tell the truth in that case.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Despite him being a terrible guy, he was still fairly honorable, and when he said he was going to do something, he usually did it\u2026 like telling the truth. If you made a deal with Levi Churchill, he will always hold up his end of the deal, no matter what.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI want you to break the curse,\u201d he said, narrowing his eyes.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t be daft,\u201d he muttered. \u201cI will tell you about the curse\u2026 but in exchange\u2026 I need you to break it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019ll have to give me some time to figure out how to break it,\u201d I told him. \u201cI\u2019m not even sure how to use these magic powers.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
I stared down at my hands and frowned; I wiggled my fingers like I expected them to do something. I still felt that buzzing sensation at the tip of my fingers, so I knew the magic was there; not to mention all my senses had been heightened, and even my wolf is feeling a bit stronger. I just wasn\u2019t sure how to use or control this magic.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m sure you\u2019ll figure it out. I need your word that you\u2019ll try whatever you can to break this curse,\u201d he said, his eyes meeting and holding mine. \u201cI need to be able to trust you with this.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
I stared at him for a moment longer before I nodded my head.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYou have my word,\u201d I told him. I wasn\u2019t sure how he knew I was serious and wouldn\u2019t back out, but the look of satisfaction crossed his face, and he nodded.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cOkay then,\u201d he said, letting out a breath. \u201cThis curse had been placed on my family a long time ago. When Megan and her mother came into our family, it was around the time we were having issues with the Blackwell family. It was right before they built their own empire and left the Alpha territory. They didn\u2019t want to abide by specific rules, and having two powerful Alpha Lycans in one territory is never a good idea. Even if one of them didn\u2019t want anything to do with pack politics, he had an option to be a chairman and take his own territory because he was that powerful, but he declined it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
