She swayed on her feet slightly, having to use her vanity before she fell to the ground. She blinked a few times, lifting her gaze to meet her own eyes\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She looked normal\u2026 but something inside of her changed. Something was happening\u2026 she just wasn\u2019t sure what it was.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSelene?\u201d She heard her husband\u2019s voice before she saw him at the doorway of her walk-in closet. \u201cHave you seen my mother? She isn\u2019t anywhere.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo,\u201d Selene said, her eyes remaining on her own, like she was trying to recognize herself.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSomething is happening,\u201d Zachary said. \u201cI could feel it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Selene blinked\u2026so she hadn\u2019t been the only one. Her eyes were shifting between Zachary and Selene, her lip sucked into her mouth as she fought to keep herself steady. Selene could tell that she was nervous; she kept running her hands up and down the skirt of her dress, and Selene could practically hear her heart beating out of her chest.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Cora let out a shuddering breath, her nose and cheeks pinkening slightly.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m sorry to just walk in\u2026\u201d Cora said softly. \u201cI never used to knock\u2026 I suppose old habits are hard to overcome.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCora\u2026\u201d Zachary breathed, his eyes wide. \u201cH\u2026how? When\u2026? W\u2026where?\u201d He tried to ask, but each question failed to pass his lips.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know you must have a million questions,\u201d Cora said, tears filling her eyes. \u201cYou must hate me for abandoning you all those years ago. And if you don\u2019t already hate me\u2026 then you soon will. He wasn\u2019t sure why she was so upset and what was going on, but he knew that he didn\u2019t want her to feel bad about anything.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Selene was also confused; she adored Cora when they were younger. She was the kindest in the Blackwell family and actually made friends with Selene when Selene married Zachary, rather than shunning her as the rest of the family did.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Then, right after Lila\u2019s birth, she just disappeared. It broke Zachary\u2019s heart, and after years of no contact, he assumed the worst. That wasn\u2019t your fault\u2026\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She shook her head, her lip trembling even more\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t you remember?
