Selene\u2019s heart skipped an erratic beat, and a wave of dizziness suddenly washed over her. She swayed on her feet slightly, having to use her vanity before she fell to the ground. She blinked a few times, lifting her gaze to meet her own eyes\u00a0<\/p>\n
She looked normal\u2026 but something inside of her changed. Something was happening\u2026 she just wasn\u2019t sure what it was.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cSelene?\u201d She heard her husband\u2019s voice before she saw him at the doorway of her walk-in closet. \u201cHave you seen my mother? She isn\u2019t anywhere.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cNo,\u201d Selene said, her eyes remaining on her own, like she was trying to recognize herself.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cSomething is happening,\u201d Zachary said. \u201cI could feel it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Selene blinked\u2026so she hadn\u2019t been the only one. She turned to face her husband and mate, her eyes wide.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYou felt it too?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
He blinked.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYes,\u201d he said, stepping towards her. \u201cI could feel\u2026 the shift.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Zachary opened his mouth to speak, but was interrupted by another voice.\u00a0<\/p>\n

They both turned and gawked as Cora stepped through the door. Her eyes were shifting between Zachary and Selene, her lip sucked into her mouth as she fought to keep herself steady. Selene could tell that she was nervous; she kept running her hands up and down the skirt of her dress, and Selene could practically hear her heart beating out of her chest.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Cora let out a shuddering breath, her nose and cheeks pinkening slightly.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m sorry to just walk in\u2026\u201d Cora said softly. \u201cI never used to knock\u2026 I suppose old habits are hard to overcome.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cCora\u2026\u201d Zachary breathed, his eyes wide. \u201cH\u2026how? When\u2026? W\u2026where?\u201d He tried to ask, but each question failed to pass his lips.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI know you must have a million questions,\u201d Cora said, tears filling her eyes. \u201cYou must hate me for abandoning you all those years ago. And if you don\u2019t already hate me\u2026 then you soon will. I have done you so wrong, Brother, and I am so sorry\u2026 this is all my fault\u2026\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Zachary stepped towards his sister.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Tears flooded her cheeks as she cried. Zachary didn\u2019t think twice; he wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close. He tried to soothe her, as he had when they were children. He wasn\u2019t sure why she was so upset and what was going on, but he knew that he didn\u2019t want her to feel bad about anything.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Selene was also confused; she adored Cora when they were younger. She was the kindest in the Blackwell family and actually made friends with Selene when Selene married Zachary, rather than shunning her as the rest of the family did.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Then, right after Lila\u2019s birth, she just disappeared. It broke Zachary\u2019s heart, and after years of no contact, he assumed the worst. It broke him, but at the same time brought him a bit of peace to lay her to rest.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI am so sorry,\u201d Cora continued to sob, her body trembling.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat do you have to be sorry about?\u201d Zachary asked. \u201cWhy did you leave, Cora?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
She pulled away, her bottom lip trembling.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWho?\u201d Zachary asked, his brows furrowed. \u201cCora, you aren\u2019t making any sense.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cOur parents,\u201d she blurted. \u201cI am the reason they are dead\u2026\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Zachary let out a low chuckle, shaking his head.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThey were in a car accident, Cora. That wasn\u2019t your fault\u2026\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
She shook her head, her lip trembling even more\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cDon\u2019t you remember? Mom and Dad were taking my best friend, Ivy, and me to dance class at the time.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
