I was quick to react. Nan jumped out of her seat, and I jumped in front of her to keep Harper from hurting her. It wasn\u2019t difficult to stop Harper\u2019s attack because she was drunk and sloppy in her movements. She nearly fell over by the time she even remotely reached Nan.<\/p>\n
I had Harper pinned to the ground with ease; she screamed out in frustration as I quickly got the upper hand.<\/p>\n
Hearing the commotion, Chester quickly ran into the room, his eyes wild as his wolf fought to take control, already sensing that his mate was in danger. The second he saw Nan standing off to the side, her eyes wide as she watched me tackle Harper, he relaxed slightly knowing she was safe, but then once his eyes found Harper, he was furious.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat the fuck do you think you are doing??\u201d Chester asked, approaching us, his eyes never leaving Harpers. \u201cWhy are you here, Harper? You were fired.\u201d<\/p>\n
Tears continued to fall down Harper\u2019s cheeks; when I didn\u2019t think she would attack Nan again, I finally released her.<\/p>\n
\u201cI came to get my stuff,\u201d she said, her bottom lip trembling. \u201cBut when I saw her here\u2026I just snapped.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cYou need to leave before the security team throws you out,\u201d Chester said, folding his arms across his chest.<\/p>\n
She sniffled and wiped at her tear-soaked eyes.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ll help you with your things,\u201d I told her as I stood up from the ground, pulling her to her feet as well. My heart went out to Harper in a way; I didn\u2019t like the fact that she wanted to fight my best friend every chance she got, but I did feel bad that she was so heartbroken.<\/p>\n
I knew she had feelings for Chester for a long time and now it was being ripped away from her. Chester stayed behind with Nan and Sammy as I went towards Harper\u2019s old bedroom. Once we were in her room, she broke down into more tears. She was a complete mess, and I hated that it was happening to her.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m so sorry, Harper,\u201d I whispered, stepping towards her.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo, you aren\u2019t,\u201d she murmured. \u201cHow could you be? You\u2019re taking her side over mine.\u201d<\/p>\n
She started to grab her things, rummaging through the room to make sure Beta Taylor didn\u2019t forget anything.<\/p>\n
\u201cOf course, I\u2019m taking her side; she\u2019s my best friend,\u201d I say, sitting on the edge of the bed. \u201cBut that doesn\u2019t mean I\u2019m not feeling remorseful about what you are going through. I wish there was something I could do that didn\u2019t require hurting my best friend.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve loved him for so long,\u201d she whispered. \u201cEver since he moved to the Silver Crescent pack. It just doesn\u2019t seem fair.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cNan is his fated mate. You had to know the possibility of that happening.\u201d<\/p>\n
She frowned deeply as she narrowed her eyes at me.<\/p>\n
\u201cI thought he would have rejected her,\u201d she admitted. \u201cLike I rejected mine for him\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n
My mouth all but fell open as I gawked at her. Did I hear her correctly?<\/p>\n
\u201cYou rejected your fated mate?\u201d I asked her.<\/p>\n
She nodded, nibbling on her lower lip as she processed the gravity of the situation.<\/p>\n
\u201cI thought he would have done the same thing,\u201d she whispered brokenly.<\/p>\n

\u201cIs everything okay?\u201d He asked after a moment of silence.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m not attacking her if that\u2019s what you\u2019re worried about,\u201d Harper murmured, folding her arms across her chest. \u201cThat\u2019s what you came to check on, right?\u201d<\/p>\n
Chester sighed and fully stepped into the room.<\/p>\n
\u201cHarper, do you think we can talk before you leave?\u201d He asked, his demeanor, oddly calm for someone who just watched her try and attack his mate. I could tell his wolf had relented full control and Chester was back in charge.<\/p>\n
