A presence.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Someone was following her.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Tch.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She narrowed her eyes ever so slightly. Was it a rogue from outside the borders? A drunk predator from another pack? Or just someone with poor timing and worse instincts?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She had originally planned to head straight back to Ashmoor University. But now\u2026\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A more interesting idea bloomed in her mind.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>74\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Finished\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Without changing her pace, Carmen let her sharp gaze flick subtly around the moonlit street. There-mounted on a stone lamppost-was a gleaming wolf-tech surveillance orb, glowing with that signature silver-blue core. It was linked to the Stormridge Guard Network.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Her lips curled.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As long as she remained within that range, whoever was behind her wouldn\u2019t dare make a\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>move.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But she didn\u2019t want to stay safe.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She wanted to bait him.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Purposefully, Carmen turned and strolled into a narrow, shadow-drenched alley just outside the surveillance\u2019s view. The cobblestones were damp, and the walls of ancient stone rose on either side like silent witnesses.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She moved calmly, pulling a communication stone from her satchel-engraved with a sigil that allowed direct contact to the Mooncrest Watch Division.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She activated it with her blood imprint, her voice trembling as she whispered, \u201cPatrol? This is Carmen Hawthorne. I\u2019m at Raven Hollow Alley, just west of the Stormridge Quarter. I\u2019m being followed\u2026 Please send a guardian quickly\u2026 I\u2019m scared\u2026\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As the enchantment closed, silencing the spell, she slipped the stone back into her cloak.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Just as she stepped back into the half-light, her stalker emerged from the darkness at the end of\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>1\/4\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>15:24 Fri, Jan 16 T\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Chapter 481\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>74\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Finished\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>the alley. Followed me all this way? What\u2019s the matter? Did I catch your eye, handsome?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The man froze, confused. He clearly hadn\u2019t expected such a reaction.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She sauntered toward him with sugar on her voice. \u201cThere\u2019s an inn just down the street\u2026 Why don\u2019t we go there together?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The man blinked. \u201cWhat the\u2026?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Before he could step back, Carmen was close enough to loop her arms loosely around his neck, warm breath fanning against his skin.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCome on, Alpha,\u201d she purred. \u201cDon\u2019t you want to play?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Her touch was light, her tone teasing-but her heart was coiled like a serpent.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The male grinned, his gaze raking over her. \u201cDidn\u2019t expect a sweet little thing like you to be this eager.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOh?\u201d she said sweetly, catching the glint of lust in his eyes. \u201cYou don\u2019t like it?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like it fine,\u201d he breathed, hands twitching toward her waist.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And that was when she struck.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>With the precision of a trained Ashmoor student, she drove her knee straight into his groin.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The man screamed, crumpling like wet parchment. He hit the cobblestones hard, gasping, clutching himself.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Carmen took three graceful steps back, hair tousled, shirt torn just enough to sell the illusion. She stood still, watching him writhe.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLittle bitch\u2026\u201d he spat through the pain. \u201cYou think this is over? I\u2019ll tear your throat out!\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He lunged toward her again, full of rage and humiliation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Carmen let out a shrill, practiced scream and turned on her heel, sprinting back toward the\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>main road.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The predator chased her blindly.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>2\/4\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>15:24 Fri, Jan 16 T\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Chapter 481\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>74\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Finished\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>They broke into the open street, just before the Stormridge Alpha Quarter gate-where crystal- lit lanterns illuminated every angle and enchanted cameras whirred silently atop the gate towers. Two sentries stood post nearby.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Perfect.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Carmen let herself slow.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She let him grab her wrist.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet go of me-NO-HELP-!\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Her scream cut through the midnight air like a blade.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou scream now? Too late, whore-!\u201d the man snarled, yanking at her already-torn shirt, the fabric shredding under his claws.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Carmen collapsed to her knees, covering her chest with her arms. Her pale skin shimmered under the lamplight, body trembling, eyes wide and glistening with fear.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The patrol wolves arrived in a blur of steel and silver sigils.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Two guards leapt between them, pinning the rogue male to the ground, shackling him in anti- shift restraints as he bellowed in fury.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t touch me! I didn\u2019t do anything-!\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Carmen huddled in silence, hair a tangled curtain, eyes wide with tears-yet behind that mask, her lips curled into the faintest, most satisfying smile.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Everything was going exactly as planned.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Next Morning \u2013 Duke\u2019s Apartment\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Morning sunlight filtered through the heavy velvet curtains of the Stormridge high-rise, slicing across Duke\u2019s face like a blade.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He groaned, shielding his eyes with one hand. His temples pounded as if a war drum was beating inside his skull.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Everything ached. His mouth was dry.
