The pain lashed across my back, fire blooming along my spine, but I barely felt\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Something inside me had cracked open.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A voice growled in my mind, low and vicious.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet me out.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>1 froze.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The voice wasn\u2019t mine.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNyra.\u201d I whispered without thinking. The name came to me like a memory from another life.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey hurt us. Again. Again. And again. You won\u2019t stop them. But I will.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>My vision blurred. Heat rushed through my veins, pulsing in time with my heart. My nails blackened, lengthening into curved claws. My teeth ached-no, grew. My spine stretched, bones shifting, cracking. I could feel my ears sharpening, hear every heartbeat in the room. My pupils split and narrowed, golden and gleaming like molten metal.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKill them,\u201d Nyra hissed. \u201cMake them pay.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am still trapped and unable to shift, but I will give you the power.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I shoved Mia aside, ignoring her gasp, and staggered to my feet. Blood dripped from my arm where the belt had torn skin, but I barely noticed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I limped into the kitchen.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The moment my hand closed around the hilt of the knife, I knew it wasn\u2019t me anymore.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We were one.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>When I stepped back into the living room, the entire Vale family went still.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRiley, put that down!\u201d Luna Zara cried.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I didn\u2019t answer. My grip tightened on the blade. My lungs refused to expand. My limbs trembled-not from fear, but from the sheer weight of his dominance. Luna Zara stumbled back. Mia whimpered. The chandelier trembled overhead.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But I didn\u2019t flinch.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Nyra surged within me like a wildfire refusing to be snuffed out.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet him roar. My body trembled, but I kept walking. Nyra\u2019s power pushed back against his aura. The pressure on my chest lessened. The fear in my limbs evaporated.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He tried again.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPut the blade down, Riley,\u201d Alaric ordered, voice thick with Alpha compulsion.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>My ears rang. My knees almost buckled-but I didn\u2019t obey.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Instead, I smiled.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A flicker of uncertainty crossed his face.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not that girl anymore,\u201d I said. \u201cThe one you locked away. The one you silenced. The one who bowed her head.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>My claws gleamed under the chandelier. I held them up for all of them to see.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis bloodline you\u2019re so proud of? It runs through me too. But I\u2019m done letting it chain me.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Alaric\u2019s lips curled into a sneer.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou expect me to believe this show? You\u2019re clearly performing for attention, but it\u2019s pathetic.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He took a step closer, nostrils flaring.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t smell a wolf on you, Riley. Not a single trace.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He tilted his head mockingly.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOr maybe there\u2019s something. Faint. Sickly. Like she\u2019s dying. I\u2019d wager you haven\u2019t even completed your shift, have you?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>His voice dropped into a cruel whisper.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>2\/3\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>26\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>O\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>R\u00ae III O\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u043e\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Chapter anu\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKeep defying me, and you might just kill your wolf before she ever gets free.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Nyra snarled. My chest constricted-not from fear, but fury.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I took another step.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou were.\u201d I said softly but I don\u2019t feel your power anymore.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Everyone froze.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I was panting. My eyes burned. My fingers ached from gripping the knife too hard.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But Nyra was laughing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s scared now. They all are. Good.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRiley, please\u201d Luna Zara tried to step between us.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I shoved past her.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m done asking nicely. I\u2019m done surviving. I want justice.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re going to kill someone!\u201d Zara screamed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe that\u2019s what it takes!\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Scarlett whimpered behind the couch.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe deserves it,\u201d Nyra hissed. \u201cShe ruined us. Let me end her.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>My body shook. I raised the knife again.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d Luna Zara cried, wrapping her arms around me. \u201cRiley, please. Please don\u2019t.
