I glared at Kael, my so-called brother, with a look that could flay a wolf\u2019s hide.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWas it you?\u201d I demanded, my voice razor-sharp.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Kael sat leisurely, fingers laced over his lap like the purebred Alpha heir he was bred to be. His expression remained unreadable-cold, superior.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWas what me? I\u2019ve no idea what you\u2019re talking about,\u201d he replied smoothly.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I took a threatening step forward, barely able to keep my wolf from surging to the surface.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid you order the council to expel Mia\u2019s daughter from her academy? I could see it-he didn\u2019t like how much I cared for someone who wasn\u2019t blood. Someone who wasn\u2019t him.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd if I did? I could read the desperation on her face.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Because I was staring straight at her, through the pack estate\u2019s exterior gate camera,\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Someone had locked her out, left her at the iron bars like a stranger. But she didn\u2019t hang up. She stood there, face pressed close to the callbox\u2019s camera, praying someone would answer.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I saw her lips moving. Everything will be fine.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Then he stood. \u201cI\u2019ll drive.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll take a cab.\u201d I snapped.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m faster.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLooking at you makes me sick.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The blow landed. Not physically-but Kael flinched like he\u2019d been struck. Then, with a roar, he kicked the coffee table, sending porcelain crashing across the floor.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRiley, you\u2019ve gone too far!\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I didn\u2019t respond. I turned and left.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Outside the manor gates, I ran straight into Theo Hale.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He leaned against his car, sunglasses low on his nose, and gave me a slow once-over.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDamn. Her light- extinguished.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I should\u2019ve felt nothing. She\u2019d always hated me, always chosen Scarlett.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But I pitied her.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Because I knew exactly what it felt like to be alive and buried.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She had hated me based on lies-Scarlett\u2019s lies.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Scarlett had pushed her.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Alaric had seen it.
