All the arrogance drained out of him in an instant. “Grandpa, I…”

“What else do you want to say?” Raymond snapped, his voice shaking with anger.

Raymond could overlook Zachary’s flings. But he would never tolerate him humiliating and hurting Genevieve for some woman who didn’t belong anywhere near the Lambert family.

Genevieve had saved Raymond’s life more than once. Without her, he would have passed on years ago.

Before Zachary could scramble for an excuse, Tristan spoke again, his tone calm. “Grandpa, don’t get worked up. Your health is more important.”

Ever since Tristan returned, the Lambert family had never been at peace. Take a deep breath.”

Zachary stood there, furious and panicked. But when he looked at Tristan’s perfectly composed face, he couldn’t force out a single rebuttal.

Since Tristan’s return, Zachary had been quietly digging into his past, trying to find something he could use against him- but he never uncovered a single real weakness.

Now, with just a few casual words from Tristan, Zachary found himself unable to argue back.

Zachary was so furious that his chest felt tight. He let out a long sigh. “Gen, help me back to my room.”

He glanced at Tristan, then looked at Zachary. There was nothing in his eyes now but disappointment.

Tristan gave a curt nod.

As Genevieve guided Raymond past Tristan, she said in a low voice, “If anything happens, call me.”

Zachary’s fists clenched so hard that his nails dug into his palms. The fury in his chest had nowhere to go.

Back in the bedroom, Raymond took a few shallow breaths, then gripped Genevieve’s hand.

X CLOSE

Chapter 31

443

2/2

“Gen, Zachary just doesn’t know how to appreciate you.
