When Zachary woke up again, he was in a hospital bed. He tried to sit up and frantically searched the room for Autumn.\u00a0<\/p>\n
A nurse heard him moving around and hurried over. \u201cDon\u2019t move or you\u2019ll tear your stitches.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Zachary asked urgently, \u201cDid anyone come see me?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
The nurse thought for a second and nodded. \u201cYeah, don\u2019t worry. He went to grab you some soup. He\u2019ll be back soon.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Zachary didn\u2019t hear it clearly and assumed she meant Autumn. The thought that she still cared enough to look after him made him relax. Autumn had always been softhearted. Maybe it wouldn\u2019t take long before she forgave him.\u00a0<\/p>\n
A few minutes later, someone pushed the hospital room door open.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Zachary thought it was Autumn coming through the door and looked over eagerly, but when he saw it was Damon, his expression turned ice cold.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWhy are you here? Where\u2019s Autumn? Did you stop her from seeing me?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Damon set the soup down on the bedside table. \u201cI\u2019d never force Autumn to do anything she doesn\u2019t want to do. She doesn\u2019t want to see you.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s impossible!\u201d Zachary got worked up. \u201cI saved Autumn\u2019s life. There\u2019s no way she wouldn\u2019t want to see me!\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Damon\u2019s face stayed neutral. \u201cActually, it\u2019s not that she doesn\u2019t want to see you. The bridal makeup is just really complicated and she can\u2019t get away to come to the hospital right now, so I\u2019m here instead. You know, as the groom.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t believe you! You\u2019re lying to me! I need to see Autumn!\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Seeing how agitated Zachary was getting, Damon sighed. \u201cFine, I\u2019ll let you see her.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Damon pulled out his phone and started a video call. It connected after just one ring.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cDamon, what\u2019s wrong? Is everything okay at the hospital?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Before Damon could answer, Zachary\u2019s anxious voice cut in. \u201cAutumn, Damon said you\u2019re still having the engagement ceremony today. He\u2019s lying, right?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Zachary refused to give up. \u201cAutumn, are you really that heartless? You won\u2019t forgive me even though I almost died for you? That doesn\u2019t make you feel anything?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cBut Zachary, if it wasn\u2019t for you, I never would\u2019ve been in danger in the first place. Right?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Zachary had no response to that. He couldn\u2019t come up with a single word to defend himself.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Autumn looked at him through the screen. \u201cZachary, if you ever really loved me, then please stay out of my life. Don\u2019t come around anymore. I really like how peaceful things are now. Your kind of love is too dangerous. I can\u2019t handle it and I don\u2019t want it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
She ended the call.\u00a0<\/p>\n
After a long silence, Zachary closed his eyes. A single tear slid down his cheek.\u00a0<\/p>\n
At that moment, he finally believed that Autumn truly didn\u2019t love him anymore. She was right. All he ever brought her was danger. If he couldn\u2019t give her the happiness she wanted, then at least he could eliminate the danger at its source.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Once Zachary recovered from his injuries, he went to the detention center. He signed a statement of forgiveness as Kristen\u2019s husband and brought her home.\u00a0<\/p>\n
On the drive back, he smiled at her, \u201cKristen, from now on, let\u2019s stay together forever, okay?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Kristen thought Zachary had struck out with Autumn and was finally coming back to her.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cOkay, fine. Let\u2019s just leave the past in the past.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Before she could even finish the sentence, she suddenly realized the car was speeding up.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cZachary, what are you doing?\u201d Kristen panicked.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Zachary didn\u2019t answer. The only response she got was the deafening roar of an explosion.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Autumn found out about Zachary and Kristen\u2019s deaths in a car crash right after she and Damon had finished their wedding ceremony.\u00a0<\/p>\n
When Damon brought it up, he seemed hesitant. \u201cAutumn, Zachary\u2019s mother already passed away from a heart attack, and now, nobody in the Hayes family wants to claim their bodies\u2026\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Autumn listened quietly for a long moment before finally speaking. \u201cLet\u2019s pay for a proper\u00a0<\/p>\n
