Daphne was such a classic two–faced bitch, playing sweet in public and venomous in private.

She had a knack for adding fuel to the fire. With just a few well–placed words, she fanned Wilfred’s temper into a blaze.

Sure enough, his voice shot up. “Have some sense, Sienna. If you’d gone with your mother back then, who knows where you’d be now? You’d probably be digging through trash somewhere.

“Do you think you’d be here, chatting and laughing among high–society circles? I was the one who raised you. I fed you well, clothed you well, sent you to the best schools. After all these years, have I raised an enemy?”

He didn’t stop. “When are you going to learn? How long are you going to dwell on those tiny grievances? Kids from the mountains have it far worse than you and complain far less. Learn to appreciate what you have, will you?”

Sienna listened silently, her eyes dark as a starless night.

Her expression was calm and unruffled as she said, “There will always be people worse off than me. But that doesn’t erase my pain. You’re telling me to appreciate what I have–how about you take your own advice?

“Some children grow up to stab their parents in the back. Yet here I am, still calmly talking to you. I think you should be grateful for that.”

“You…”

Wilfred’s face flushed an ugly shade, his hand trembling as he pointed at her. “You ungrateful child! When have I ever treated you poorly? You’re such a thankless creature. Thank heavens Ethan and Liv would never nitpick like you. You’re just like your mother.”

Daphne quickly stepped in to pat her husband’s back. Her voice was gentle as she tried to soothe him. “Alright, that’s enough. Sienna, your father has high blood pressure. Let’s not upset him further.”

Sienna couldn’t bear watching Daphne put on an act. “If you can’t stand the sight of me, why did you come looking for trouble? We could just stay out of each other’s way.”

Wilfred snapped pointedly, “Don’t forget your mother is still lying in the hospital. How dare you act tough?”

“And don’t you forget Grandma’s three–year agreement,” Sienna retaliated without yielding an inch, every word firm and forceful.

“The value I brought through my marriage far exceeds the medical bills. What more do you want? Why don’t you make a list of everything you ever spent on me and charge me once and for all? That will save us all the nagging.“.

Daphne tried stepping in again to smooth things out. “Enna, a bond by blood can’t be severed. Your dad and I didn’t come to you for any other reason.

“You haven’t been home for a while. We miss you. It’s Olive’s birthday next week. Why don’t you drop by? We can also have a proper celebration for your birthday. Wouldn’t it be nice for the family to be together in harmony?”

“Are you sure it’s my birthday you’ll be celebrating?” Sienna scoffed as though she had heard a joke.

“What are you guys talking about? It looks intense.” Clayton walked over, wrapping an arm around Sienna’s shoulder as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

Sienna didn’t answer, but her body stiffened almost imperceptibly.

Wilfred quickly plastered a loving expression on his face, sighing theatrically. “Clayton, we were just chatting. Sienna hasn’t been home in ages. I thought you might have been keeping her busy! She never answers calls or messages, so we were just worried about her.”

“It’s true, I just can’t bear to let her go.”

Chapter 80

2/2

Clayton’s smile was lazy, almost careless. “Why, do you have a problem with me now?”

“No, of course not!” Wilfred waved his hands frantically. “I’m just relieved that Sienna is doing well. Next week is Olive’s birthday, and I was hoping to get the whole family together. Sienna just doesn’t seem keen and keeps saying she’s busy. Who knows what’s got her so occupied?”

Clayton thought for a moment. “Olive’s birthday? Another big party?”

He remembered last year’s coming–of–age ceremony on a luxurious cruise ship. The extravagance was outright unmatched.

“Olive’s always enjoyed a lively crowd,” Wilfred explained with a smile, casting a sidelong glance at the silent Sienna. Sienna is more reserved and doesn’t care for these things, but still, it’s an important day.”

Clayton reflected on it. Indeed, Sienna never did care for birthdays.

11

He leaned over and whispered in her ear, “If I’m not mistaken, it’s also your birthday, right? How about we throw an even grander party?”

Though his voice wasn’t loud, Daphne heard every single word. The corners of her lips twitched upward before she smoothed them back into a dignified smile.

Sienna slowly lifted her gaze to look at Clayton. It was as though something in her eyes had shattered like broken glass.

Chapter 81

She got the divorce and bolted 80 Chapter 80 Sienna sneered inwardly.
