Drop that obnoxious attitude, Sienna, before anyone thinks I held a knife to your throat and forced you to attend the dinner.”

Sienna finally looked up and met Clayton’s hard stare, her gaze clear.

She retorted monotonously, “I thought you’d know better than anyone what I meant by ‘anything’s fine‘, Mr. Hale. How many times have you given me similar answers?

“When I asked you what you’d like for dinner, you said ‘anything’s fine‘. When I asked you which wedding ring we should pick, you said ‘whichever’s fine‘! And now I’m obnoxious for answering you the same way?”

Clayton swallowed, the strong column of his throat bobbing. He was, to his surprise, stumped.

It took him a while to point out stiffly, “Those instances are different. You’d actually be wearing the dress you pick out. If

you’re going to be so flippant about it, you might as well show up naked!”

The manager and assistants held their breaths, terrified of making the slightest noise, lest the roof get blown off.

“Fine, then, I’ll pick out a dress!” Sienna compromised, standing up and walking toward the display racks. She thoughtlessly picked up a sapphire–blue strapless dress and said, “This one.”

Clayton stormed over and eyed the dress critically. “Are you expecting your breasts to hold up the plunging neckline? This dress will slide right to your ankles when you walk through the hall.”

Sienna bit back on her frustration and picked out a silver number with straps. “This one, then.”

Clayton cocked a brow and said condescendingly, “Imagine how badly creased the dress will look on your stringbean figure? How are you going to fill it out?”

Once again swallowing her anger, Sienna picked out a lilac backless long dress. “This one should be fine.”

“This?” Clayton’s lips curved into a sneer. “I can’t have people thinking my family’s broke. It’ll make us look like we can’t afford enough fabric for a dress.”

The leash on Sienna’s temper snapped at last. She shoved the dress back on the rack and snapped, “What the hell’s the matter with you? Are you doing this on purpose? You asked me to pick out a dress, but when I do, you start criticizing my choices!”

Clayton lazily shoved a hand into his pocket and flashed her a roguish smile. “I was simply telling the truth. Think about how bad I’ll look if I allow you to embarrass yourself in an ill–fitting dress.”

As he spoke, he pulled a black, long–sleeved dress from the rack beside him. “Something like this suits you best.”

Sienna stared at the dress that had more fabric than shape. A derisive snort escaped her. “Are you taking your wife to a dinner party or a nun to a cathedral?”

Sensing the tension escalating, the manager hurriedly defused it by pulling a loose halter–neck long dress in the shade of pale vanilla. “Why don’t you try this on? The loose silhouette makes for a very elegant cut.”

“That will do.” Clayton gave the dress a cursory glance and practically forced it on Sienna. “Go change into it.”

Sienna looked at the dress speechlessly. If she were seven months pregnant, this dress would still do a good job of hiding any sign of it.

She remembered how patient Clayton had been with Melody when the latter was trying on dresses, lauding every time she changed her outfit.

X CLOSE

Chapter 74

2/2

But when it came to Sienna, he freely criticized her figure and choices, only to pick a dress for her in the end so he could wrap

things up.

Did he think so little of her?

Sienna reluctantly changed into the dress and emerged from the fitting room.

The pale vanilla halter–neck dress hung perfectly from her frame, its loose skirts embroidered with dark floral patterns that seemed to dance with each step she took. The dress accentuated the perfect curve of her nape, adding a touch of aloofness to her usual gentle charm.

At this point, Clayton had changed into a black suit, the dark pattern on the fabric matching the embroidery on Sienna’s dress. He stood tall and straight before the full–length mirror, adjusting his cufflinks. The suit brought out the chiseled planes and angles of his face.

Even the manager couldn’t help but praise them. “You’re a match made in heaven!”

Sienna and Clayton stood side by side, their reflection in the mirror showing an elegant, beautiful young woman, and a handsome, regal young man. Anyone who saw them would have thought they were a perfect match.

Sienna was lost in her thoughts for a moment, but a touch of melancholia stole across her features.

Suddenly, a cool sensation enveloped her ring finger.

Clayton had slipped her wedding band onto her finger again.

“What are you doing?” Sienna pulled away. “Are you going to make me pay if I lose the ring? Just so you know, I can’t afford

it.”

“How stingy do you think I am?” Clayton scoffed, partly out of amusement as he shoved the ring all the way down. “This ring will always be yours, okay?”

Sienna caressed the ring, an idea already forming in her head. She figured she could sell the ring and make good money.

Chapter 75

1/2

Chapter 75

She got the divorce and bolted 74 Chapter 74 Clayton’s brows furrowed. “What do you mean ‘anything’s fine‘?
