There was barely concealed disdain in her eyes. “You’re really sly and calculative. Did you deliberately get this on your arm to make others feel bad for you?”

She reckoned Clayton was probably going to show this to Melody and tell her he got hit because of her, to show her how much he cared about her.

“What?” Clayton leaned closer toward her. Sienna could detect the smell of cigarette smoke. “Do you feel bad for me?”

Sienna took a step backward. “I only feel bad for the cane.”

After saying how Clayton got what he deserved, Sienna walked past him and headed for Rupert’s room

She opened the door. Rupert was leaning against the headboard. There was a weary look on his usually stoic face. His eyes brightened when he saw Sienna. He waved at her. “Enna!”

“I haven’t seen you for just a few days. How did you manage to get yourself in this state?” Sienna strode over to the bed and said sternly.

Rupert coughed a little. He waved his hand dismissively. “I’m getting old. I’ll probably be reunited with my dead wife very soon.”

“Nonsense!” Sienna held his hand. “You’re definitely going to live until the day Clayton turns bald.”

Rupert chuckled in amusement. His expression hardened the next instant. “That brat put you in a tough spot during the birthday banquet, didn’t he? Why didn’t you tell me about it?”

Sienna’s eyes grew hot. All these years, Rupert was the only person who would care about her feelings and worry if she had enough money to use. He would often give her some money whenever they met for holiday celebrations.

“It doesn’t bother me anyway. Sienna couldn’t understand why, no matter how hard she thought about it.

“Why do you hate her so much? Is it because of her family and background?”

“Am I that kind of shallow person to you?” Rupert widened his eyes.

“What’s the reason, then?”

“Our star signs are incompatible.”

Sienna grinned. “A reason like that… I guess you’re not really that shallow.”

Rupert looked at her intently just then. “Do you still remember what you said three years ago?”

Sienna’s smile froze. When she told Rupert she wished to marry Clayton, she said she had liked him for a long time. She promised she would treat Clayton well and never leave him.

Back then, she naively thought that love would help her conquer all. Yet, she found out eventually that one party constantly giving in a relationship was just wrong.

To win over someone who had given their heart away to another person was utterly impossible. Now that she had decided to

YOOSE

Chapter 25

pull out of this, Sienna couldn’t help feeling a bit guilty considering the promise she had made.

2/2

Sienna fell silent. Rupert lightly patted the back of her hand and consoled her. “Won’t you give him a bit more time? He’ll get around.”

This situation hadn’t lasted for just three days. It was three whole years.

Sienna couldn’t bring herself to tell Rupert her honest thoughts upon seeing the expectant look in his eyes.

She replied, “Alright. Don’t worry about us. What matters most now is for you to rest and get well. You can sometimes go fishing or play chess with your friends.”

Rupert lay down on the bed. He smiled at Sienna. “Sometimes, you sound quite like my late wife, with the way you speak.”

“Maybe it was Grandma who sent me here to watch over you.” Sienna tucked him in.

After he fell asleep, Sienna came downstairs and headed for the front door. However, Irene stood in her way. “Stay over here with Clayton tonight.”

She wasn’t asking for Sienna’s opinion. It was an order.

Sienna had only gone along with Rupert’s request earlier to calm him down. She hadn’t changed her mind about getting divorced.
