He didn’t even have time to open the umbrella before running straight toward her.

Only when he reached her did he fumble to open it and hold it over her head. “Why are you out here alone in the rain? Where’s Jeffrey? Didn’t he go back to the Foster residence with you?

“Come on, get in the car.”

Natalie lifted her eyes to look at Johnson. Aren’t you more important than a car?”

We went to the trunk, took out his jacket and a towel, and tried to wipe her off.

turned her head away. “I’ll do it myself.”

lie took the towel and slowly wiped her face.

nson demanded angrily, “What kind of a man is Jeffrey? How could he leave you on the side of the road in the middle of he night when it’s raining this heavily? What if you ran into bad people? What if something happened?”

Natalie said, “He probably wishes something would happen to me.”

If she died, Jeffrey would have no more obstacles. He’d be a widower and would be able to marry Abigail on the spot. He’d do it the next day-no, probably on that very day.

Johnson sat in the driver’s seat, quietly watching her.

Natalie tidied herself up a little. The towel was so wet it could be wrung dry. Her hair hung damply over her shoulders, and her face was pale.

She asked, “Why did you come all the way here? Did Chandler tell you something?”

Johnson hesitated for a moment before he said, “Yes. I had a hunch things might not go smoothly between you and Jeffrey, so I came over to see how things were going, just in case. It turns out I came at the right time.”

Natalie asked, “Then, were you the one who told Chandler that Jeffrey and I are living separately?” Otherwise, how would Chandler know she was staying at the Bennett residence?

Y CLOSE

Johnson nodded again.

Natalie looked at him with a probing gaze.

“I know what should be said and what shouldn’t,” Johnson said. I didn’t say a single word about the divorce or the child.”

Natalie pursed her lips. “I lost the baby.”

Johnson widened his eyes.

She continued, “The divorce won’t be made public for now, so I’ll have to trouble you to continue keeping it a secret.”

Johnson asked, “At this point, is there really any need to keep it a secret?”

Natalie sighed. “Caroline isn’t in the best of health. She wouldn’t be able to take it.”

Johnson couldn’t understand Natalie. “So, you have to continue to suffer because of that? You’ve never done anything wrong

in this marriage. If it’s ending, it’s because of Jeffrey’s mistakes. Why should you cover for him? Why should you be considerate for his family’s sake?”

Natalie said softly, “From the time I was little, Caroline has always treated me like family. How could I bear to hurt her?”

“But what does Jeffrey treat you like?” Johnson asked.

For the first time, a crack appeared in Natalie’s calm expression. “I shouldn’t have married him. Ending the engagement back then would have been the wisest choice.”

But marrying Jeffrey had been her dream when she was young. Being his wife was her ultimate ideal in life. With the marriage she had longed for right in front of her, how could she bear to let it go?

Back then, Natalie had thought Jeffrey loved her, and what he felt for Abigail was nothing more than gratitude. After marriage, she would slowly win back his heart and help him distinguish love from obligation.

Johnson answered, “Yes, you should’ve married me instead.”

Y CLOSE

Divorced While Pregnant The Ex-Husband’s Collapse 41 Chapter 41 The phone kept ringing as Natalie continued walking. Finally, a […]

[9

post-20015","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-divorced-upgraded-and-married-rich
["GET
