Oscar told me that you had someone step in to help.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Silas\u2018 brows lifted slightly. Before he could reply, she held out an envelope and said, Tomorrow\u2019s Saturday. I heard there\u2019s a basketball exhibition game with some pretty big names coming. Would you be interested?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He narrowed his eyes and opened the envelope slowly. Inside was a single ticket. \u201cSo this is how you\u2019re thanking me?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes. Holly said you played basketball in high school, so I thought you might enjoy it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It wasn\u2019t a couple\u2019s ticket this time; it felt more like a personal invitation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The proud Silas smiled. \u201cAlright. I\u2019m free that day. I\u2019ll go with you.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Bethany hesitated, as if she wanted to explain that it wasn\u2019t meant that way, but in the end said nothing. She figured that seeing Oscar there later could count as a surprise.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>When she didn\u2019t correct him, Silas\u2018 smile deepened. He said, \u201cGo get some rest. But she was dressed up quite nicely. She probably went shopping with friends.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A satisfied smile tugged at his lips. Clearly, she was taking their date seriously. He understood. Going out with someone as handsome as him, it was only natural to be shy.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m heading out. We won\u2019t be back for dinner tonight,\u201d Silas said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Before Jane could respond, he stepped into the elevator.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Jane frowned and murmured to herself, \u201cBut Mrs. Brennan said she\u2019d be home for dinner\u2026\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On the way, Silas stopped by a flower shop, bought a bouquet of roses, and placed them in the truck, planning to give them to Bethany after the game.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>With a ticket in one hand and the other tucked into his pocket, he watched the crowd stream\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>into the arena.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As the start time approached, he frowned and was about to call Bethany when an unwelcome voice sounded behind him.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat? Silas, you\u2019re here too? Didn\u2019t Bethany come with you?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Silas glanced at the ticket in Oscar\u2019s hand and immediately sensed something was wrong. He asked, \u201cWhy are you here?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Oscar laughed. \u201cOh, Bethany said she had an extra ticket yesterday and gave it to me. I thought you two came together.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Silas\u2018 eyes narrowed. He snatched the ticket from Oscar\u2019s hand and saw that the seats were\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>next to each other.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It seemed that he had underestimated Bethany\u2019s generosity.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHey, why are you leaving?\u201d Oscar called after Silas, confused.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Silas shoved the tickets back into Oscar\u2019s hand. \u201cGo find one of your pretty boys to watch the game with you.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Oscar was left speechless.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Had Bethany misunderstood something?
