That morning, just after finishing yoga and on her way to breakfast, Bethany received a call from Diana. She put it on speaker. \u201cHey, Mom.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI heard from Antonio that you\u2019ve stirred up quite a bit of trouble since you started at the hotel.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Bethany paused. \u201cUncle Antonio told you that?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYeah. He wouldn\u2019t lie, would he?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Diana continued earnestly, \u201cBeth, I get that you\u2019re eager to prove yourself and want to stand firm at the company quickly. But you don\u2019t really know much. Antonio has been running the hotel all along.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019re not a kid anymore. You need to listen more, learn more, and stop bossing people around. Otherwise, how\u2019s Antonio supposed to teach you? Now, apologize to him. If not, maybe you should start as a regular employee.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Diana went on and on. Bethany suddenly lost her appetite for the croissant in her hand.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Silas, who had just stepped out of the bathroom, heard every harsh word.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He watched Bethany as she held her croissant. Her eyes were cast downward, and the corners of her mouth were turned down.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He strode over and grabbed her phone. A faint smile played at his lips as he said, \u201cDiana, this is Silas. If you keep going on, Beth\u2019s going to start crying. What you\u2019re saying isn\u2019t serious anyway. But if Beth cries, I\u2019ll have to spend some time cheering her up.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Diana was caught off guard. She wasn\u2019t sure if Silas was joking, but he was clearly defending Bethany.\u00a0<\/p>\n
She forced a smile and said, \u201cSilas, I didn\u2019t mean it that way. I\u2019m just worried that she\u2019s being overzealous.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cDiana, I can\u2019t help but notice that Beth\u2019s uncle is pretty eager to tattle.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Silas\u2018 voice carried a casual tone but with a sharp warning beneath it. It made Diana hesitate to speak any further.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Bethany stared blankly at him. \u201cYou\u2026 Thanks.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Although she had no recollection of ever shedding a tear.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Silas handed the phone back to her. \u201cPushover. Don\u2019t answer calls you don\u2019t want.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Bethany smiled bitterly. She hadn\u2019t expected Diana to turn into a life coach so early in the morning.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cSo, your hotel lost some clients?\u201d Silas asked.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Bethany took a big bite of her croissant until her mouth was full. \u201cIt looks like it. I haven\u2019t been to the company yet, and my uncle hasn\u2019t mentioned it,\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
The client had been lost because of Silas, though Bethany was unaware. If he hadn\u2019t called the media, Noah wouldn\u2019t have pinned this mess on Elysian.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Silas pulled out a piece of tissue and handed it to her. \u201cI\u2019ll drive you to work later.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Bethany declined. \u201cIt\u2019s okay. I\u2019ll drive myself.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Noah had grounds to sue Elysian because the hotel\u2019s security procedures were inadequate.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Bethany learned that the current person in charge was a son of Antonio\u2019s cousin from the countryside. She planned to clear out all of Antonio\u2019s connections from the company.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cMs. Porter, Mr. Clay from operations is asking for you.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Bethany froze for a moment, then took the call. \u201cHello, Mr. Clay. What can I do for you?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cMs. Porter, do you have some time to come by? I didn\u2019t expect you to have ties with Brennan Group. Their representative is here in my office wanting to discuss a long\u2013term partnership.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
