Diana\u2019s temper flared. \u201cI\u2019ll call her over right now!\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Bethany had no idea that Noah had beaten Cyrus to a pulp. As soon as she received the call, she rushed to the Reid residence. She thought that Diana had finally come around and planned to transfer the shares to her early. To her surprise, the moment she walked through the door, Diana slapped her hard across the face.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Bethany stiffened. The burning sensation lagged half a second before spreading across her left cheek.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The humiliation hurt more than the pain. That slap was like a blade, severing the bond she still had with Diana.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Ella, who was beside them, gasped dramatically. There was a triumphant glint in her eyes as she asked, \u201cWhat did you do this time to upset Mom this time, Beth?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Bethany lowered her head and let out a mirthless chuckle. Then, she raised her hand and slapped Ella hard.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Ella stared at her in disbelief. \u201cHow dare you hit me!\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cSo what if I hit you?\u201d Bethany scoffed. \u201cStay out of my business. Better yet, stay far away from me!\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Diana was shell\u2013shocked. She almost didn\u2019t recognize her daughter anymore. \u201cWhy did you slap Ella? Have you lost your mind, Bethany?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Bethany was frighteningly calm. \u201cSo, why did you hit me?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Diana took a deep breath, coaxed Ella upstairs, and comforted her for a long while before coming back down.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Right then, a disturbing thought took shape in Diana\u2019s mind. Bethany was no longer under her control.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Diana studied Bethany closely. \u201cWhat exactly are you trying to do, Beth? Did you know that the Brannons have called off the engagement? Did you change your mind and decide that you didn\u2019t want to marry Cyrus, so you went and made a scene? \u201cGary is furious. It was supposed to be a union by marriage, but now our families are at odds.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Bethany\u2019s almond eyes narrowed slightly. She wondered if this was because Silas had beaten him.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Diana scowled and chided, \u201cWhat on earth are you on about? The Brennan family? You don\u2019t seriously think that one meeting with the heir of the Brennan family puts you on their radar, do you?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Her words were cut short by Gary\u2019s call. Diana shot daggers at Bethany before answering it, smiling. \u201cHello, honey.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cDiana, the Brennans just reached out to me, saying they want to form a marriage alliance with us!\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
