She did a full yoga routine in her room before washing up and heading out. Jane had already prepared a full breakfast spread and set the table then.

Bethany ran into Silas, who had just finished working out in the gym. He wore nothing but a simple black tank top. The fabric clung tightly to his chest, outlining his defined abs.

Beads of sweat rolled down his sharp jawline, slid past his throat, and disappeared beneath his taut chest muscles. His deep, dark eyes swept over her. “Morning,” he greeted her casually.

Bethany nodded. “Morning.”

When they brushed past each other, she could feel the heat radiating from his shoulder. Without realizing it, the tips of her ears turned red.

Bethany hurriedly walked over and took a seat at the dining table. The table was already set with a generous spread of fresh vegetables, oatmeal, toast, scrambled eggs, sausages, buttered croissants, and soft–boiled eggs.

“I just prepared a few simple dishes, Mrs. Brennan. Are these to your taste?” Jane had prepared breakfast according to Silas‘ preferences.

Bethany smiled. “Thank you, Jane. Could you make me a cup of coffee tomorrow?”

Jane nodded. She figured that Bethany preferred western food, so she took a mental note of her preferences.

Bethany could eat just about anything. In the past, she had simply gone along with Noah’s preferences. However, no matter what was on the table, the first thing she reached for every morning was coffee.

Silas emerged from his bedroom in a robe. His hair was still slightly damp, and he carried a clean, fresh scent. It was the smell of his shampoo. It hit her then that the cool, cedar–like scent she had noticed on him before was from his shampoo.

Noticing her sitting quietly at the table, taking small sips of her coffee, he couldn’t help but smile. “Does it suit your taste? If it doesn’t, just tell Jane. She can make almost anything, and she’s quite good at it.”

Jane chimed in, smiling, “That’s right, Mrs. Brennan. Let’s exchange numbers. You can just text me what you’d like to eat each day.”

And just like that, Bethany had one more contact in her list.

After breakfast, she wanted to return to her room, but she thought that it would be a little rude for her to leave right away. So, she picked up a book on hotel management and sat on the couch to read. The soft clinking of cutlery, the faint sound of chewing, and the gentle rustle of pages as she curled up on the couch filled the room.

Silas wiped his mouth gracefully, stood up, and returned to his room to put on a white suit. He came back out holding two ties, one gray and one blue. “I have a business dinner tonight. Which one do you think looks better?”

Bethany was startled and hurriedly set her book down. Pursing her lips, she studied the ties for a moment. “The gray one seems to match your gray–blue suit better.”

A smile crept onto his face. “Alright. I’ll wear this one then.”

Bethany waited for him to return to his room, yet he looked straight at her. He asked, “Are you interested in management? You can’t rely solely on what’s contained in books.”

Indeed, Bethany wanted to familiarize herself with hotel management. Recalling Silas‘ background, she mustered up the courage to ask, “Do you have any courses you’d recommend, Mr. Brennan?”

Mr. Brennan? The way she addressed him wasn’t pleasant at all.

Silas pressed his lips together into a thin line. “We’re married now. The way you address me sounds too distant. My dad

X CLOSE

Chapter 13

won’t buy it. Why don’t you call me by my name? ‘Dear‘ works too.”

2/2

Morning light streamed in through the floor–to–ceiling windows, Illuminating her profile. Bethany wasn’t sure if it was the sunlight or his words, but her ears flushed crimson.

He stopped teasing her and changed the subject. “Management is easier when someone shows you the ropes. If you want to learn hotel management, I have a friend whose family runs hotels. I’ll send you his contact later, and you can reach out to him whenever you have questions.”

Bethany nodded obediently.

His amused voice sounded above her head. “Can you help me tie my tie as a reward, Mrs. Brennan?”

Her voice trembled slightly. “O–Of course.”

Silas bent down and leaned closer. Heat rose to her cheeks as she took the tie, her fingers slipping around his neck. They were so close that she could feel his breath, and it almost felt as though they were about to kiss.

For a moment, the room was silent, save for the gentle rustling of fabric between them.

Silas looked down at her, his eyes dark and unreadable. Noticing how practiced her movements were, a certain possibility flashed through his mind, and his gaze darkened. The faint joy he had felt disappeared in a heartbeat.

Bethany took a step back, widening the distance between them. “There, all done.”

He hummed. “Thanks. I’m heading to work. Call me if you need anything.”

The amorous atmosphere between them vanished the moment his cold voice sounded.

Bethany smiled wryly. Silas liked men, and so, she shouldn’t let her thoughts wander anymore.

Noah had been in a foul mood for the last few days. It had been three full days, and Bethany hadn’t called or messaged him

once.

That slap was still burned into his mind. Since when had that little rabbit grown so bold?

A cold gleam flashed in his eyes as he ordered his assistant, Arthur Powell, “Let it be known that whoever hires Bethany will be making an enemy of me.”

“Understood, Mr. Vazquez.”

Noah exhaled a cloud of smoke. He almost looked forward to the day she would come crawling back to him after being rejected by every company out there.

A Mix-up Made Me His Enemy’s Woman 13 Chapter 13 The next morning, Bethany woke up early.
