She didn’t expose the little girl. Instead, she just hummed indifferently in

response.

Downstairs, the car that had just left had already returned, silently pulling up in front of the building. Ethan stepped out again and respectfully opened the door to the backseat.

“Let’s go,” said Genevieve, patting Stella on the shoulder before heading toward the elevator first.

In the elevator, Stella kept her head down, fingers clenched tightly around the hem of her clothes. It wasn’t until they stepped out of the building that she finally stopped. She turned back, looking past Genevieve toward the second floor of the apartment. That was where the balcony was.

The easel was still out on the balcony. Beside it were the paints and brushes Stella had only just touched yesterday. She muttered under her breath, “I’ll come back.”

Taking a deep breath, Stella turned and got into the car. On the other hand, Genevieve remained where she was, watching until the car disappeared. It was only then that she turned and headed back upstairs.

At Emerald Palace, a carved sandalwood screen divided the private room into a refined, tranquil space. A faint, elegant fragrance lingered in the air.

Sylvia sat at the head of the table. When she saw Stella enter, her expression softened a little.

Stella pulled out a chair and sat down carefully, placing her hands neatly on her knees. Only after the server had left and closed the door to the private room did Sylvia finally speak.

“Ella, you stayed at Genevieve’s place for two days. Did you notice anything?” Sylvia asked.

Stella’s heart skipped. She looked up instinctively. “Notice what?”

“Leverage. Anything that could ruin her reputation. For example, did she and Tristan behave inappropriately?” Sylvia replied, her fingernails tapping lightly against the tableware.

The implication in her eyes couldn’t have been clearer.

In an instant, Stella’s mind filled with memories of Genevieve’s gentleness. She lowered her head and answered in a muffled voice, “No, they’re just living normally. I got sick, and Genevieve even took care of me. She isn’t a bad person.”

With a loud bang, Sylvia slammed her cutlery down onto the table. She looked as though she had just heard the biggest joke

of her life.

“Why are you calling her so affectionately? Stella, did she drug you with something? She’s the one who sent Zachary to prison and destroyed half of the family’s foundation.

“Yet, you’re so affectionate with her now? You’re even saying she isn’t a bad person! Have you forgotten how good Zachary was to you? Who raised you like a treasure in the palm of their hand? You’re so ungrateful!”

Stella’s eyes reddened instantly. Tears welled up, but she stubbornly refused to let them drop. She lifted her head and met Sylvia’s furious gaze. Her voice trembled, thick with tears, but she spoke clearly. “Zachary did something wrong. That’s why the police took him away.”

Those words completely ignited Sylvia’s rage. “Bitch, shut your mouth!”

In the private room next door, separated by only a screen, a man slowly set his teacup down. Jonathan frowned. He had heard every word of the argument next door.

Genevieve hadn’t been at ease leaving Stella alone, so she had asked Jonathan to follow Stella. He hadn’t expected to walk

X CLOSE

Chapter 95

straight into such a scene.

He pulled out his phone and quickly dialed a number. The call connected almost immediately. He said, “Gen, Sylvia is scolding Stella.”

2/2

Genevieve stopped painting. On the canvas, the brush left behind the faintest hitch in its stroke. Jonathan continued, “She’s forcing Stella to dig up dirt on you. She wants proof of some so–called affair between you and Tristan.”

There was a brief silence on the other end. Then, Genevieve replied calmly, “I got it. I have it under control.”

Jonathan listened as more voices drifted over from next door, and his frown deepened. “Sylvia mentioned teaming up with Regina to stir up trouble. You should take extra bodyguards to the exhibition coming up/any exhibitions these days.”

Regina? It seemed she truly hadn’t learned her lesson.

“Alright,” responded Genevieve.

After the call ended, Tristan walked over and asked, “Do you need me to arrange people to follow you?”

you chose her so i married better 95 Chapter 95 Genevieve watched Stella put on a brave front.
