Meanwhile, Tristan leaned against the doorframe, his gaze deep and unreadable.

Just then, the doorbell rang again. Tristan walked over and opened the door. Standing outside was a middle–aged man in a black suit. Genevieve recognized him as Sylvia’s personal driver, Ethan Miller.

Ethan’s gaze slipped past Tristan and landed on Stella in the living room. He said respectfully, “Mr. Hale, Mrs. Lambert misses Ms. Lambert. She asked me to bring her over so that they can have a meal together.”

Stella bit her lower lip. This was definitely because of Zachary. She muttered, “I’m not going.”

All of a sudden, she no longer wanted to see Sylvia.

Ethan frowned and said, “Ms. Lambert, please don’t make things difficult for me.”

“I said I’m not going!” Stella shouted as she looked up. Her eyes were already red. She didn’t want to leave this place. As long as she stayed here, she wouldn’t have to learn things she didn’t like or follow all those so–called rules and etiquette.

Genevieve set the documents aside and slowly walked over. She crouched down so they were at eye level. She asked, “Do you want to stay here?”

Stella nodded hard. Her eyes shimmered with tears, making her look like a pitiful little animal desperately seeking shelter.

Genevieve said, “Tell him you want to stay then. Have him go back and tell your mother that you’re still sick and need to rest.

11

Upon hearing that, Stella froze. She hadn’t expected Genevieve to help her. Instinctively, she glanced at Tristan. He simply stood there quietly, as though he had handed all decision–making power over to Genevieve.

Encouraged, Stella took a deep breath and gathered her courage. “Ethan, I have a fever. I don’t feel well. Please go back and tell my mom that I’m not going today.”

Ethan’s gaze swept briefly over Genevieve and Tristan before settling back on Stella. He knew that with Tristan around, forcing the issue was impossible. So, he said, “Got it, Ms. Lambert. As for your luggage…”

“No! I’ll go back on my own in a couple of days,” replied Stella before he could finish his words.

Ethan said nothing more. He nodded and turned to leave. The black Bentley soon left in silence. It was only then that the tension in Stella’s body finally eased. She looked at Genevieve and whispered, “Thank you.”

Genevieve raised a brow. However, no one expected that half an hour later, Stella’s phone would start ringing nonstop. It was a call from Sylvia. At once, Stella’s face went pale. She stared at the call, not daring to answer.

It was already the third call. If she continued to ignore it, Sylvia would definitely come over in person. In the end, she swiped to answer. She mumbled, “Hello, Mom.”

“Stella! Just how bold have you gotten? How dare you ignore my words now?” It was obvious that Sylvia was furious.

“I–I don’t feel well,” explained Stella in a low voice.

Sylvia’s voice shot up. “I’m giving you half an hour. Get to Emerald Palace immediately. Otherwise, I’ll send you back to that boarding school.”

The call ended. Stella clutched her phone, her face drained of all color. She didn’t want to go back to that place.

Watching Stella’s expression, Genevieve frowned. She asked, “Did she threaten you?”

Stella sniffled but shook her head. Forcing a hofofa huff, she lifted her chin and said, “Of course not. She’s my mom.
