With a smile, he asked the boy, “I’m a boss. I can choose not to go to work. Nobody controls me, and I don’t have to worry about my salary being cut.”

Sonny replied, “Oh. But Uncle Zak is a boss too. Why does he have to work every day?”

Duncan explained, “Uncle Zak’s company is larger than mine. He has more responsibilities, so he needs to work daily.”

Sonny accepted this explanation.

Duncan set him down.

The boy had many questions on his mind. If one wasn’t quick to respond, they could find themselves in a tight spot.

“Liberty.”

Duncan approached Liberty, holding a bouquet of flowers. He looked at her affectionately as he handed her the bouquet.

“Mr. Lewis, I don’t like flowers. Please don’t send them to me again,” Liberty said, a bit exasperated.

Despite her repeated rejections, Duncan continued to bring her flowers.

Noticing that she didn’t accept the bouquet, Duncan searched for a vase and placed the flowers in it. “It’s not nice to come empty-handed, so I bought you these. Hank even advised Sonny that if Duncan sought out Liberty, he should call Hank, who would come to help protect her. This left Sonny in a dilemma about whether to reach out to his father.

“Mom, I want to talk to Aunt Ser on the phone,” Sonny suddenly requested.

After making some ravioli, Liberty responded, “Aunt Ser just sent you home, and now you want to call her?”

“I just want to talk to her on the phone,” Sonny insisted. With no other option, Liberty retrieved her phone and handed it to him. “Aunt Ser is busy, so don’t talk to her for too long,” she cautioned.

Once he took the phone, Sonny slipped away to hide in his room. Duncan chuckled, remarking, “Sonny is getting weirder. He even hid in his room just to talk to Serenity.”

After washing his hands, Duncan approached to help Liberty make ravioli.

“Mr. Lewis, I don’t need your help. You can sit and drink some water,” she said. However, by the time Liberty attempted to stop him, Duncan had already begun making ravioli. “I’m not thirsty. I know you’ve been making ravioli all afternoon. I finished my work, so I have some spare time to help you so you won’t be exhausted.”

He might appear rough and burly, but he was skilled at making ravioli. Since Duncan was determined to assist, Liberty found it difficult to send him away.

“Mr. Lewis, I want to be clear that I’m not considering marriage at the moment, and I’m not interested in you either. If you keep coming over, I’ll feel conflicted,” she explained.

Mrs. Lewis was aware that Duncan frequently sought Liberty’s company, so she urged Liberty to cancel her tenancy agreement.

diner, move out, and even leave Wiltspoon.

“Liberty, I’m not expecting you to accept me right now.
