Ruth hurriedly said, \u201cOf course, Mr. Cooper! That\u2019s obviously you!\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
He gave a faint, unreadable smile. \u201cIf my employees were as slow as you, they wouldn\u2019t last a day.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Ruth had no idea what she\u2019d done wrong. She nervously wrung her hands together, panicking. \u201cAren\u2019t you the person in charge here?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
William turned off the water, picked up his cup, and shot her a cold, casual glance. \u201cYou\u2019re here to take care of Scarlet. After three whole years, do you still not know who your boss is?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Ruth froze, stunned into silence.\u00a0<\/p>\n
William didn\u2019t press further, simply walking away.\u00a0<\/p>\n
After that little push, something finally clicked in Ruth\u2019s mind. The next morning, her attitude toward Scarlet changed entirely.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Scarlet was heading downstairs to feed the cat when Ruth practically jumped in front of her. \u201cOh, I got this! Don\u2019t even bother. If you get cat hair on you, Mr. Cooper won\u2019t even want to come near you.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Scarlet rolled her eyes. \u201cIt\u2019s good to let him suffer.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Ruth set the breakfast on the table, and Scarlet found that they were all her favorites. As she walked over, Ruth rushed to pull out a chair for her, grinning ear to ear.\u00a0<\/p>\n
As soon as Scarlet got seated, Ruth said, \u201cI made scrambled eggs with bacon and some blueberry pancakes-sweet or savory first?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Scarlet flatly said, \u201cOr you can just eat it yourself.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Ruth stepped back, looking a little hurt. \u201cI\u2019m just worried you\u2019ll burn yourself.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Scarlet couldn\u2019t help feeling a little bemused. She didn\u2019t understand the sudden shift in Ruth, but didn\u2019t dwell on it.\u00a0<\/p>\n
She\u2019d grown up starved for love, always giving her heart freely to others. But once someone betrayed her, the door slammed shut for good. One mistake, and they were gone for life.\u00a0<\/p>\n
It was Sunday, a rare day off. She could sit down and eat breakfast without rushing.\u00a0<\/p>\n
After a while, William came downstairs and took a seat across from her. Ruth served him scrambled eggs with bacon.\u00a0<\/p>\n
As they ate, William\u2019s gaze flicked toward Scarlet several times, but she ignored him, eating slowly.\u00a0<\/p>\n
After finishing just half a plate, he straightened his tie and put his coat back on.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Scarlet didn\u2019t even glance up, clearly uninterested in what he was doing. Even as he buttoned his coat and put on his watch, her attention stayed on the food, savoring each bite.\u00a0<\/p>\n
