Is he backing away? Or did he leave because he saw me here?’

As Serenity pondered Duncan’s abrupt departure, he reentered the diner.

This time, he was holding a bouquet of flowers.

It turned out he had forgotten to grab the flowers from his car.

Serenity was taken aback.

She glanced at her sister, only to find Liberty’s expression unreadable.

Since it was still early, Serenity was the only customer in the diner, while the two shop assistants sat nearby, enjoying their breakfast.

Noticing a customer, the assistants initially stood to help, but upon seeing it was Duncan, they sat back down to continue eating.

Duncan’s interest in Liberty was so evident that they couldn’t pretend otherwise.

“Liberty.”

Duncan approached, bouquet in hand.

“Serenity, you’re here early.”

He greeted Serenity.

Serenity replied, “I haven’t had the signature breakfast at my sister’s diner in a while and was craving it, so I came early. Mr. Lewis, you’re also quite early.”

It was only seven o’clock in the morning.

Serenity’s husband was still asleep when she left home.

Before leaving, she intentionally left a note on the bedside table for Zachary to prevent him from waking up in a bad mood when he noticed her absence. He often blamed her for not waiting for him and for ignoring him.

In the future, Serenity would need to devote more time to caring for him; otherwise, it would take a toll on her.

“I usually come at this time,” Duncan said.

He replied before she could ask, “Where’s Sonny?”
“Sonny is at my house. Jim will take him to his lessons later.”
Liberty was busy managing her diner and had to rise early each day. It wasn’t practical for her to bring Sonny with her, so the little guy stayed with Serenity at night. In the morning, Jim would take Sonny to class.
Duncan hummed and then handed the bouquet to Liberty, his dark eyes fixed on her as he said, “Liberty, this is for you.”
Liberty stood up and met Duncan’s intense gaze directly, declining the bouquet. “Thank you, Mr. Lewis, but I don’t like flowers. I’ll cook you breakfast instead.”
Duncan was mentally prepared for Liberty’s rejection of the bouquet. When he confessed his feelings to her, she had made it clear that she didn’t share the same sentiments. Thus, he was always ready for her to turn him down.
“I’ll have the same thing,” Duncan replied.
Liberty walked away. Duncan didn’t follow her but sat across from Serenity, placing the bouquet on the table. Serenity kept glancing at the two of them. After Duncan settled in, Serenity lowered her head to eat her breakfast.
“Zachary didn’t come with you?” Duncan asked, looking for a topic to ease the tension.
“He’s still asleep. I have to go to the bookstore, so I left the house early,” she replied.

Chapter 1589 Duncan entered but quickly turned around and left without greeting the Hunt sisters.
