We might misinterpret their intentions and feel as if they are complicating our lives.”

“That’s true. Do your parents act that way too?” Elisa inquired.

“My parents generally stay out of my affairs once I reach adulthood. However, they don’t really intervene because my eldest brother is in charge of me. The older generation in my family tends not to interfere with the younger ones. They might comment if we’re still not settled down, though.”

Elisa smiled. “That makes sense. I’ve heard that the elders in the Johnson family are quite liberal, similar to the Yorks. It’s no wonder you all are part of the 1% of the population. Everything seems to be going well for you.”

“Elisa, does your mom object to me dating you?”

Elisa responded candidly, “Yes, she does. My mom mentioned that you’re from out of town and doesn’t want me marrying someone so far away. She’s quite adamant about keeping us apart. She insists there are plenty of bachelors in Wiltspoon, claiming it’s better to marry a local rather than someone from elsewhere.”

Her mother was so determined to prevent any relationship from developing, even though Elisa and Remy had not reached the point of marriage.

Remy took a moment before speaking again. “Aside from the distance, are there any other concerns she has?”

“No, that’s the main issue. She’s unhappy that you aren’t local. Just that alone is a significant hurdle. Why would you want more complications?”

Remy smiled and replied, “It’s not a big problem. Give Mrs. Stone some time; she’ll eventually come to accept me.” He gazed into Elisa’s eyes. “I’m more curious about when you will accept me.”

“Oh, me.”

Feeling much lighter, Elisa

focused on the road as she replied, “I’ve never had a guy pursue me before. I want to enjoy being courted and the feeling of being loved.” Remy listened intently, keeping her words in mind. He was determined to fulfill her heart’s desires to make her happy, hoping she would eventually open her heart to him. Remy sensed that Elisa had feelings for him; she expressed a desire to be the one receiving love and attention for a change, rather than always being the one who chased.

Elisa led Remy to the Wiltspoon Hotel. After parking, she turned to him and asked, “Are these flowers for me?” Remy handed her the bouquet, his gaze intense as he explained, “I wanted to give you these flowers, but your brother wouldn’t let me in. I rang the doorbell, and when you came out, I figured I should hold onto them since you were driving.” Elisa accepted the flowers with a smile.

“Everyone except my dad disapproves of us taking our relationship further. My mom is the most opposed. She used to manage my dad’s company and sees herself as a businesswoman, with a tough exterior, yet she has always been gentle and forgiving with me. When I was younger, my brothers would plead with me to speak on their behalf when they misbehaved, and my mom would always listen, no matter how upset she was.”

Elisa sighed. “My family didn’t support me when I fell for Zachary, and now that I have no feelings for him and am considering you as a potential partner, they’re still not backing me. It’s no wonder I have a blank dating history even in my twenties.” Her family often interfered in her life.

Carrying the flowers, Elisa stepped out of the car before Remy could respond. “Come on, let’s have dinner. All this talk is…”

“Depressing.”
“Alright. I’ll take you to the movies after dinner.”
To Elisa, the cinema held little interest; in fact, she rarely watched movies. Yet, she kept her thoughts to herself.
She realized that many couples enjoyed going to the movies while dating.
It wasn’t that the films were particularly good; rather, it was the romantic atmosphere and the time spent together that attracted them.
As night fell,
the streetlights surrounding Wildridge Manor illuminated the area.
From a bird’s-eye view, the entire estate presented a stunning scene.

    <i class="icon
