I didn\u2019t even realize I had romantic feelings for Liberty until after the panic, fear, and heartache I felt when she was hurt.\u201d<\/div>\n<div>\u201cI don\u2019t care that she\u2019s divorced or that she has a son. I like Sonny. As for social status, it doesn\u2019t matter to me. However, I won\u2019t confess my feelings just yet, as I don\u2019t want to pressure her. I\u2019m willing to wait two to three years to confess after her career takes off.\u201d<\/div>\n<div>Duncan believed he would have a better chance of success if he confessed to Liberty after she had established herself in her career.<\/div>\n<div>By then, Liberty would be a confident and strong woman.<\/div>\n<div>Lily stared at Duncan in shock and regret.<\/div>\n<div>She had thought she could still strive for a chance, but Duncan\u2019s words made her reconsider. His thoughts were entirely focused on Liberty, and when a man thinks so much of a woman, it indicates he has truly fallen for her.<\/div>\n<div>Duncan was thirty-six. Many men his age already had one or two children, making him a \u201cleftover man.\u201d Yet he was willing to wait for several years, not to marry Liberty, but simply to confess his feelings.<\/div>\n<div>It remained uncertain whether Liberty would accept him after achieving success. Even if he eventually won her over,<\/p>\n<p>It will likely take some time, anywhere from six months to a year at the very least, or three to five years at most. Duncan was prepared to wait, regardless. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI apologize, Ms. Harmon,\u201d he said with regret. \u201cYour time has been wasted due to my mother\u2019s affection for you.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Lily took another sip of her coffee. After a pause, she replied, \u201cYou haven\u2019t wasted my time, Duncan. I traveled to Wiltspoon for business. I\u2019m here to assess the market and collaborate with major corporations in the area.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI came here for work, but I stayed at your house because of the friendship between Mrs. Lewis and my mother. I\u2019m reconnecting with Mrs. Lewis on behalf of my mom. My stay is due to our parents\u2019 relationship, not because of you. You haven\u2019t wasted my time. I\u2019ll return after successfully negotiating a deal with Wiltspoon\u2019s business leaders.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou don\u2019t need to feel sorry for me. You haven\u2019t wronged me in any way.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>After a brief silence, Duncan said, \u201cIt\u2019s no surprise my mom adores you, Ms. Harmon. You are genuinely thoughtful.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Lily smiled confidently and responded, \u201cI consider myself exceptional as well. I admit I wanted to develop our relationship into something more\u2014perhaps as a couple or even husband and wife. I admire you, but you already have someone special. Let\u2019s just focus on being business partners moving forward.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve accepted my defeat. You\u2019ve had a long-standing relationship with Liberty, while I came into the picture later. Timing was simply not in my favor. I believe you might have fallen for me had I arrived before you met Liberty.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Lily understood that she could not win Duncan\u2019s affection, yet a sense of regret lingered. There were few men she admired and would consider marrying. She was content with Duncan, but sadly, her feelings were unreciprocated. They were simply not meant to be.<\/p>\n<div>Neither of them liked to force things.<\/div>\n<div>Duncan remained silent.<\/div>\n<div>There were no uncertainties.<\/div>\n<div>There was no \u201cif only I had known sooner.\u201d<\/div>\n<div>His feelings for Liberty were surprising, even to him.<\/div>\n<div>It was unexpected.<\/div>\n<div>\u201cI\u2019ll continue living in your house, Duncan.
