Though she couldn’t speak yet, she managed a smile to comfort her sister, but tears welled up in her eyes despite her efforts to hold them back.

She had made her choice once more.

Liberty temporarily set aside her parents to return and care for her sister and son.

“Doctor, how is my sister-in-law doing?” Zachary inquired.

“The patient is awake and out of danger. She no longer needs to stay in the ICU,” the doctor replied.

Everyone felt a wave of relief wash over them.

Liberty was moved to a general ward, and Zachary arranged for her to stay in a VIP room that was quiet and conducive for her recovery.

Although Liberty was awake, she was still very weak. Once settled back into the ward, she quickly fell into a deep sleep again.

Serenity sat by the bed with Sonny in her arms, watching over her sister. She would gently touch the tip of Liberty’s nose occasionally to ensure she was breathing normally, which reassured Serenity.

After dawn, Zachary informed Mrs. Stone and the others that Liberty was out of danger and had briefly awakened.

Grandma May and the others arrived at the hospital early in the morning.

It had been too late for Grandma May to return to Wiltspoon the previous night, so the younger family members insisted she stay home, causing her to wait until daybreak to rush to the hospital.

“Nana,” Serenity said, standing with Sonny in her arms when she saw her approach.

Grandma May responded with a hum. She went to check on Liberty first, noticing her sister still sleeping and looking pale, which broke her heart. “It pains me. We had so many of us, yet we couldn’t protect a woman and her child!”

Zachary and Duncan remained silent.

They had indeed failed to adequately protect the mother and child.

“What did the doctor say?” Grandma May asked Serenity.

“The doctor said my sister’s life is no longer in danger. She woke up and was moved out of the ICU at daybreak. Now, she’s asleep again.”

Grandma May hummed softly. “As long as she’s okay, that’s what matters. I was so worried that I couldn’t sleep well. It’s alright, Seren. Don’t stress too much. I told you that you and your sister are incredibly blessed. She’ll recover soon.”

Afterward, she went to pick up Sonny.

After being frightened, Sonny was only willing to be held by Serenity and Zachary. However, when Grandma May reached for him, he still stretched out his arms and allowed her to carry him.

“Sonny was scared. He kept waking up and crying last night.”

“Of course. I’ll find a therapist later to help calm him down. As long as we stay with him and talk to him gently, he’ll heal.”

Grandma May believed that therapy could assist a traumatized child.

She had done this many times before.

Serenity shared her belief. Since Grandma May suggested it, she expressed her gratitude.

“We’re family, so there’s no need to thank me. I feel for Sonny, too. Thankfully, those bad guys were caught. This won’t happen again.”

Still, she shot her grandson a stern look.

Zachary remained silent, fearful of provoking her further.

When Grandma May saw Duncan, she was taken aback.

“Duncan, are you hurt as well? You look terrible,” Grandma May inquired with concern.

Everyone turned their attention to Duncan.

Duncan touched his face and replied, “Do I really look that bad? Grandma May, I’m not injured. I’m fine and don’t feel uncomfortable at all.”

He had simply been watching over Liberty all night.

“You look ghastly—you need to take care of yourself.”

You look dreadful and worn out.

Chapter 1407 Liberty was relieved to see her son safe and her sister present.
