After Mrs. Lewis made her request, she turned to Liberty and asked, \u201cLiberty, how often do you see Duncan? He\u2019s good friends with your brother-in-law, so I assumed you see him occasionally. If you have the opportunity, could you please help me persuade him to visit Lily?\u201d<\/div>\n
Liberty smiled and replied, \u201cMrs. Lewis, I\u2019d be happy to help. Mr. Lewis is a wonderful person, and I do see him from time to time, but I\u2019m not sure how much influence I have over him.\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cHe comes to my place for breakfast most mornings and enjoys spending time with my son. Next time he visits, I\u2019ll try to mention Lily and encourage him to see her more often.\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cHowever, I must be honest that there are no guarantees, especially since our relationship is primarily that of a shop owner and tenant. If you, as his mother, have struggled to sway him, I doubt my suggestions will have much impact.\u201d<\/div>\n
Mrs. Lewis thought this over and responded, \u201cYou make a valid point. Still, if he comes for breakfast tomorrow, have a quick chat with him and mention Lily\u2019s name. See how he feels about her.\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cI\u2019m taking Lily to the Wiltspoon Hotel tomorrow for the Marshalls\u2019 banquet, and I was hoping Duncan would join us.\u201d<\/div>\n
Duncan planned to attend the banquet as well, but he would be going alone, without a partner or his mother.<\/div>\n
After all, he was quite a lone wolf and felt somewhat disconnected from his family.<\/div>\n
Most people viewed him and his family as separate entities.<\/div>\n
Liberty understood Mrs. Lewis\u2019s concern for her son\u2019s future. She decided to do the elderly woman a favor, especially considering her connection to Liberty\u2019s sister\u2019s family and her own desire to help.<\/p>\n

Aunt. However, she knew better than to assure Mrs. Lewis that she could persuade Duncan to attend the Marshalls\u2019 banquet. She doubted her influence over him. That matter was strictly between mother and son. <\/p>\n

At that point, a group of night-shift workers who had just finished their shifts arrived for breakfast. Mrs. Lewis quickly stuffed Lily\u2019s picture into her bag and rose to bid a brief farewell. \u201cLiberty, I won\u2019t take up any more of your time. You have a business to manage.\u201d <\/p>\n

Liberty thoughtfully escorted Mrs. Lewis to the entrance, smiling the whole way. \u201cPlease be careful on your way home, Mrs. Lewis.\u201d <\/p>\n

Mrs. Lewis waved goodbye to Liberty and approached her car. She opened the door and settled inside just as the vehicle drove away. <\/p>\n

Once the car had disappeared into the distance, Liberty returned to the store to attend to her customers. It was Lily who had come to pick up Mrs. Lewis. <\/p>\n

Things were not progressing well with Duncan, and there was still a lack of advancement. Since Duncan was preoccupied with work and had endless meetings each day, Lily only managed to spend a few minutes in his office before the secretary interrupted to inform her that Duncan had another meeting to attend. <\/p>\n

Duncan curtly apologized and instructed Lily to schedule an appointment with his secretary if she wished to discuss the upcoming investments further. This way, she could avoid wasting time on a fruitless trip to his office. <\/p>\n

\u201cMrs. Lewis, how have you been?\u201d Lily greeted her warmly. <\/p>\n

\u201cLiberty doesn\u2019t have any feelings for Duncan, does she? Did you tell her to back off?\u201d Mrs. Lewis sighed. \u201cNo, it doesn\u2019t seem like it. I intentionally let your picture slip from my pocket so she could see it before I mentioned my plans to match you two.\u201d<\/p>\n

with Duncan. Her response appeared to be quite sincere, and she doesn\u2019t seem to have any hidden agendas. <\/p>\n
