Staring at the chaotic pile of blocks and the assembly instructions, he realized how challenging it was to construct the project.<\/div>\n<div>He knew he would never have the patience for such a task.<\/div>\n<div>\u201cDo you actually know how to build that?\u201d Jessica inquired.<\/div>\n<div>\u201cWhy don\u2019t you give it a shot?\u201d<\/div>\n<div>Hank, feeling overwhelmed, snapped at his wife in response.<\/div>\n<div>Sonny looked between Jessica and his father, then innocently asked, \u201cDad, why is she always following you?\u201d<\/div>\n<div>Hank was left speechless.<\/div>\n<div>Before he could respond, Jessica sweetly interjected, \u201cSonny, I\u2019m your dad\u2019s wife. You can call me Mom too.\u201d<\/div>\n<div>\u201cI have a mom. You\u2019re not my mom!\u201d<\/div>\n<div>Sonny quickly retorted, his annoyance evident. Hearing this, Liberty emerged from the kitchen.<\/div>\n<div>\u201cMom!\u201d<\/div>\n<div>Sonny jumped up and ran to Liberty, hugging her legs. He looked up, worried, and said, \u201cMom, you\u2019re my mommy. She\u2019s not my mom!\u201d<\/div>\n<div>Liberty picked up her son and coldly addressed Jessica, \u201cMs. Yates, Sonny only needs me as his mother. He doesn\u2019t require you as his stepmother. Mr. Brown, please take your wife and leave.\u201d<\/div>\n<div>Hank felt embarrassed as he glanced at his ex-wife and son.<\/div>\n<div>Jessica replied, \u201cLiberty, I am Sonny\u2019s stepmom. A stepmother is still a mother. Did I say anything wrong?\u201d<\/div>\n<p>\u201cSonny is Hank\u2019s son, and I\u2019m Hank\u2019s wife. It\u2019s perfectly normal for me to say that we\u2019re a family,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJessica!\u201d Hank called out in a low voice, pulling his wife\u2019s hand. He turned to Liberty and said, \u201cWe need to leave now.\u201d With that, he hurriedly dragged Liberty out, anxious that Jessica and Liberty might start an argument. He slammed the door behind them.<\/p>\n<p>Once the obnoxious couple was gone, Liberty carried her son to the sofa and explained, \u201cSonny, Mom and Dad have divorced, and your dad has remarried. That Yates woman is indeed your dad\u2019s wife\u2026 She\u2019s your stepmother. However, you don\u2019t need to call her mom. I\u2019m your only mother.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sonny, not knowing what divorce meant, didn\u2019t fully grasp what his mother was saying. However, one thing was clear to him: he had only one mother. He understood that because of the divorce, they could no longer live with his dad. Sonny seemed to catch bits and pieces of the situation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMom, why did you divorce Dad?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n<p>Liberty gently stroked her son\u2019s head and replied, \u201cIt\u2019s an adult thing. You\u2019re still young, so you won\u2019t understand. There\u2019s no need to ask. Just know that Mom and Dad will always be your parents. Nothing can change that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sonny appeared to understand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGo play by yourself for a while, Sonny. Mom needs to work, okay?\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Sonny nodded. \u201cOkay.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Noticing the building blocks scattered around, Liberty helped her son clean up. \u201cIf you can\u2019t put these blocks together, just put them away for now. You can try again when you\u2019re older.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDunc is coming tomorrow.
