She turned around, returned to her room, and slammed the door shut.

“Darling, darling,”

Hank called out to her twice.

Mrs. Brown said to her son, “Leave her be. She simply doesn’t want you going on an outing with Liberty. It’s not as if you’re going out with Liberty alone; we’ll all be joining. Yet, she still chooses to be jealous.”

“Has she forgotten that she took you from Liberty?”

Mrs. Brown had a strong dislike for Jessica.

She once believed her son was capable, but now she looked down on Jessica for being a homewrecker.

The Brown family planned to pick up Sonny and Liberty for a trip to the zoo tomorrow afternoon. The weather was pleasantly mild—not too cold or hot, making it perfect for an outing.

Meanwhile, Serenity and her husband returned home after spending some time at her sister’s house.

On the way back, she told Zachary, “In the past, the Brown family claimed they loved Sonny, but those were just empty words. They never offered any help. My sister and I raised Sonny ourselves. They never took care of him, yet they expect him to bond with them. What kind of absurdity is that?”

“I was the one who looked after my sister after she gave birth. I lost six pounds that month due to exhaustion.”

Serenity was devoted to her sister. After Liberty gave birth, she insisted that her sister do nothing and told her to rest. Serenity brought food to Liberty’s room and forbade her from even washing the dishes, fearing that her sister would develop joint pains from exposure to cold water.

In the month following Sonny’s birth, the newborn often cried and fussed, sometimes refusing to sleep for long stretches at night.

Since Hank had to work, he moved to the guest room to sleep. As Sonny’s aunt, Serenity had no choice but to take on the responsibility.

with no choice but to carry the crying Sonny as she walked around, wanting to allow her sister to rest properly. Serenity could only rest once Sonny had fallen asleep.

Liberty discussed with Hank the possibility of asking Mrs. Brown to come over and look after Sonny during that time. Hank explained that his parents needed to care for Lucas and couldn’t leave. He further suggested that Serenity could take care of her sister and nephew since she was present.

“They’re jealous that Sonny is close to me, but they forget who raised him. Hank often complains about me living in his house. If it weren’t for my sister and nephew, I would have moved out long ago.”

“I just care about my sister and nephew,” she added.

Zachary held his wife’s hand affectionately. “It would have been nice if we had met earlier.”

“If the timing hadn’t been right, we wouldn’t have recognized each other even if we passed by,” she replied.

“They’re trying to get close to Sonny now to ease tensions and improve our relationship, hoping to convince me to let Hank off the hook. If that happens, Hank will be able to find a job. They also want your sister and Hank to remarry,” he noted.

Zachary had seen through all of the Brown family’s intentions. Serenity had come to similar conclusions.

“They can try all they want, but my sister won’t make the same mistake twice,” she asserted.

Zachary agreed, thinking, ‘Duncan must not have figured out his feelings yet.’

The Brown family continued to pressure Liberty, possibly hoping to encourage Duncan and his sister-in-law to get together. Zachary had long believed that his friend and sister-in-law were meant to be.

They often crossed paths. Duncan had mentioned that he would always run into Liberty whenever he drove a new luxury car. Afterward, minor issues would typically arise with his vehicle. As a result, whenever he drove a new car and unexpectedly encountered Liberty, he would park.

The car was parked far away, so they walked over to greet her. Zachary and Serenity made their way back to the villa on the hilltop. However, upon reaching the gate, they found an expensive car blocking their path. The driver honked, prompting the occupant of the car to move. He opened the door and stepped out, striding towards them confidently. Both the driver and Jim, who was seated in the passenger seat, recognized the man—it was Duncan. Jim turned to Zachary and said, “Mr. Zachary, it’s Mr. Lewis.” Zachary thought to himself, ‘I really shouldn’t speak ill of someone behind their back. Speak of the devil.’

Chapter 1157 Jessica pouted and remained silent.
