Serenity had purchased her car in the fall of the previous year and had driven it for less than six months. Camryn quietly tucked the card into her pocket. Serenity paused for a moment before asking Camryn in a more relaxed tone, \u201cMs. Newman, if I insist on pressing charges against Carrie, do you think you can manage living in the Newmans\u2019 house?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll have a tough time, but that\u2019s how I\u2019ve always lived there. Regardless of whether you press charges against Carrie, their treatment of me won\u2019t change,\u201d Camryn replied calmly. \u201cMrs. York, you are free to do as you wish. You don\u2019t need to consider my feelings. After all, the incident began because of me. You acted against Carrie merely to help me. It was Carrie\u2019s fault for hiring people to damage the car and inflict injuries; she deserves to face consequences. If I plead for her mercy, I\u2019ll owe you.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBesides my aunt, it has been a decade since anyone has helped me like this,\u201d she added. Camryn would prefer to confront Mrs. Newman rather than beg Serenity not to charge Carrie. <\/p>\n

Her last sentence struck Serenity deeply. Camryn may have come from a wealthy family, but her biological father had passed away early, and her biological mother had treated her poorly, more like a cruel stepmother than a parent. <\/p>\n

After shaking Camryn\u2019s hand, Serenity said, \u201cMs. Newman, I feel we could really connect. I would like to be your friend. If you ever need help in the future, please don\u2019t hesitate to reach out. I\u2019ll\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI will do my best to assist you. If I\u2019m unable to help, I\u2019ll find someone who can.\u201d <\/p>\n

Callum managed to remain calm, not moving a muscle for an extended period. <\/p>\n

If Serenity were a man, she would have embraced Camryn and protected her from any bullying. <\/p>\n

\u201cThank you, Mrs. York.\u201d <\/p>\n

Camryn did not plead or beg Serenity to forgive Carrie, as Mrs. Newman had hoped. <\/p>\n

Carrie showed no signs of remorse whatsoever. Even if Serenity chose not to press charges against her, Carrie would likely seek revenge against Serenity once she was released from the detention center. <\/p>\n

Serenity considered her family\u2019s safety and realized that letting Carrie off the hook would invite trouble for herself. Carrie was now aware that Serenity had learned self-defense and had bodyguards to protect her. This knowledge might deter Carrie from acting against Serenity. <\/p>\n

But what about Serenity\u2019s sister and Sonny? <\/p>\n

Carrie was young, energetic, and reckless. Facing legal consequences was, in fact, the best way for her to learn a lesson. Only by going to jail would she understand that the rule of law applies to everyone, regardless of their status or wealth. <\/p>\n

She must not believe she could act however she pleased simply because she was a wealthy young lady with influential parents. <\/p>\n

All are equal before the law! <\/p>\n

\u201cMrs. York, please continue with your work. I won\u2019t disturb you any longer.\u201d <\/p>\n

Camryn touched her white cane and stood up. <\/p>\n

\u201cLet me arrange for someone to take you back to your florist.\u201d <\/p>\n

Since Camryn was visually impaired, Serenity would not allow her to leave alone. <\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s still waiting for my update at the intersection. I need to inform her. You can have two people escort me to her car and tell me to leave.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFiercely, if that works for you,\u201d she replied. Serenity felt a bit bewildered. How could Camryn be aware of the other customers in her store? She reached out and waved her hand in front of Camryn. \u201cMrs. York, there\u2019s no need to test me. Right now, I\u2019m truly unable to see.\u201d<\/p>\n
