Upon seeing the light, the receptionist smiled and said, \u201cThat sounds about right. The child must be his wife\u2019s nephew. I can\u2019t believe the CEO would bring his nephew to the office. The way he held the child so gently makes it seem like he was carrying his own son.\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cHe might be eager to become a father\u2026 Perhaps the missus is pregnant, and he\u2019s practicing how to care for a child. He probably wants to be a very involved dad.\u201d<\/div>\n
The other receptionist was taken aback. Was that possible?<\/div>\n
Deep in his sleep, Sonny remained undisturbed during the car ride and the walk to the office. His uncle finally laid him down on the bed in the private resting room.<\/div>\n
Zachary bent over to remove Sonny\u2019s shoes and socks before taking off his jacket. He then tucked the boy under the blanket.<\/div>\n
The sight of the adorable child made Zachary\u2019s heart melt. He leaned forward to kiss Sonny on the cheek.<\/div>\n
\u201cSonny, every time I look at you, I dream of having a little boy or girl with your aunt.\u201d<\/div>\n
The nearly three-year-old boy was sound asleep, so he, of course, did not respond to Zachary.<\/div>\n
Zachary stayed for a while before leaving the private resting room. Just as he stepped out, Mr. Chaplin knocked on the door and entered.<\/div>\n
\u201cMr. Lewis is here, sir.\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cOkay.\u201d It then occurred to Zachary that he was meeting Duncan to discuss a partnership. He gestured for Mr. Chaplin to let Duncan in.<\/div>\n
Duncan strode into the office, smiling as he asked, \u201cI heard you brought a child to the office, Zachary. Is it your illegitimate child? I can\u2019t believe you. We\u2019ve been friends for years, and you never bothered to tell me you secretly had a child.\u201d<\/div>\n
Though tempted to throw something at Duncan, Zachary couldn\u2019t find anything of suitable weight.<\/div>\n
He peevishly\u2026<\/p>\n

snapped back, \u201cHe\u2019s not my illegitimate child. He has parents, you know. But someone cares for him a lot and wants to be his dad.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cSonny?\u201d <\/p>\n

Without hesitation, Duncan named Sonny. <\/p>\n

Something felt off. Duncan was too quick to respond when Zachary mentioned someone wanting to be Sonny\u2019s dad\u2014as if he had confessed something. <\/p>\n

It\u2019s true that Duncan had a fondness for Sonny and wished he were his son. However, he did not have those feelings for Liberty. <\/p>\n

\u201cWho else besides Sonny? Other people may not know me, but how could you not? The community would be buzzing if I had an illegitimate child at this age.\u201d <\/p>\n

Zachary moved closer and invited Duncan to sit on the sofa. <\/p>\n

Instead of sitting down, Duncan headed to the private resting room. He asked, \u201cIs Sonny playing in the private area? Is he asleep? That explains why I didn\u2019t see him when I was passing by All You Can Eat.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s asleep. Don\u2019t wake him.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cI won\u2019t wake him. I just want to kiss his little face. I\u2019ve been longing to nibble on him. How can he be so cute?\u201d <\/p>\n

Zachary allowed Duncan into the quiet zone, and Duncan took his time in the private resting room. <\/p>\n

When he emerged, tenderness softened his rugged facial features. Judging by his satisfied expression, it seemed he had showered Sonny\u2019s face with kisses. <\/p>\n

\u201cSonny takes after my sister-in-law,\u201d Zachary remarked unexpectedly. <\/p>\n

Duncan approached the sofa and sat down, replying, \u201cHe does.\u201d <\/p>\n

There was no way he could kiss those chubby cheeks if the boy resembled Hank. <\/p>\n

Noticing that his comment had flown over Duncan\u2019s head, Zachary smiled without elaborating further. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhy did you bring Sonny to the office?\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cSeren said she would take Sonny to her shop, but she woke up late today, so I brought him here. He\u2019s<\/p>\n

He\u2019s asleep anyway; he won\u2019t disturb me.\u201d
\n\u201cOh.\u201d Duncan didn\u2019t see an issue with that.
\n\u201cWould you like something to drink?\u201d
\n\u201cJust a glass of water, please,\u201d Duncan replied. However, he got up and poured himself a drink regardless. He even scolded Zachary, \u201cYou never take care of me and Josh when we visit. We always have to handle things ourselves.\u201d \u201cOnly you two seem to feel at home here.\u201d<\/p>\n
