She wore large black sunglasses that concealed her eyes, and her striking face remained as expressionless as before.

“What are you yelling about?”

Camryn was entirely familiar with her surroundings. Upon hearing the argument between two people, she gauged their positions and approached Serenity, asking kindly, “Are you Mrs. York?”

“What Mrs. York? She’s just a hillbilly. Don’t bother flattering her, mole rat. Just wait. A country bumpkin like her will soon be chased out of the York family. I can’t believe Mr. York actually likes someone like her.”

Carrie despised it when others referred to Serenity as Mrs. York. She was too intimidated by Zachary’s cold demeanor to confront him, yet she was ambitious and also aspired to marry into the York family.

Among the nine young masters in the York family, her mother had chosen the one with the gentlest temperament—the seventh son. He was two to three years older than her, but her mother insisted that only a man slightly older would pamper and spoil her.

Carrie was capricious and quick-tempered, so she needed someone kind-hearted like him to indulge her.

She thought, ‘I’ll be marrying into the York family one day. I refuse to accept a hick like Serenity as my sister-in-law.’

As a result, she could not tolerate people calling Serenity Mrs. York.

“Shut your mouth!”

Camryn snapped sharply. Without waiting for Carrie’s response, she turned to Serenity apologetically, saying, “Mrs. York, she’s been spoiled by my mother and doesn’t know any better. Please don’t take it to heart.”

“You damned…

“Mole rat, how dare you scold me? Don’t assume you can act like an older sister just because Daddy helped you this time and prevented me from teaching you a lesson. I’m telling you, they are my parents and my family. What right do you have to lecture me?”

“Do you think you could stay at home if it weren’t for the fact that I need a punching bag? My mom would have kicked you out long ago.”

Even if Camryn went home now, she would still be living in the nanny’s room. Her uncle-turned-stepfather told her it was inconvenient for her to go upstairs since she couldn’t see, so he insisted she stay in the nanny’s room on the first floor. That room was divided into two halves; the larger section was assigned to the housekeeper, and the smaller one was for her, the eldest daughter of the Newman family.

Serenity noticed Camryn’s grip on her cane tightening at Carrie’s words. She wondered how much this girl had suffered in silence. There must be something she was unwilling to leave behind if she had endured it for so many years.

As Carrie attempted to slap Camryn while shouting at her, Serenity quickly grabbed her wrist. She flung Carrie’s hand away and said coldly, “Do you believe me when I say I’ll rip your arm off?”

“Try me!” Carrie shot back.

Serenity sneered. “Sure! Ms. Carrie, my husband told me it doesn’t matter how many people I offend, as long as it’s not them offending me. He’ll definitely seek justice for me.”

Having an overbearing and powerful husband felt pretty cool. She could be even more arrogant when confronted by someone equally arrogant. Serenity felt like she could do anything she wanted.

“Carrie Newman!” Camryn, who was managing the store inside, heard the commotion at the entrance and slowly made her way […]

[20

post-13057","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-married-at-first-sight
["GET
