I asked her to cook, but she said there weren\u2019t enough ingredients in the fridge and opted to bring food home instead. She just can\u2019t compromise. Now that both of you are unemployed and your income is gone, she still doesn\u2019t know how to cut back on expenses,\u201d Mrs. Brown expressed her dissatisfaction with her new daughter-in-law.<\/div>\n<div>Hank let out a sigh of relief and, after entering the house, went to take a look around.<\/div>\n<p>In the kitchen, aside from some vegetables, there were only three eggs left in the fridge. The remaining ingredients were indeed quite limited.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMom, you and Dad do nothing at home all day, yet you can\u2019t even help with grocery shopping. I can barely tolerate eating just vegetables and eggs every day, and Jessica certainly can\u2019t,\u201d he complained.<\/p>\n<p>Whenever his parents cooked, the meal consisted only of a plate of plain lettuce and three boiled eggs. Yes, just three boiled eggs\u2014one for him and one for each of his parents. Jessica received none.<\/p>\n<p>She could manage this meal once or twice, but after repeated instances, Jessica could no longer bear it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re just helping you save money,\u201d Mrs. Brown replied nonchalantly. \u201cYou still need to renovate the house, and a wedding costs money too. Why don\u2019t you talk to that Yates woman and cancel the wedding? You\u2019ve already registered your marriage, and the wedding gift has been given to her parents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re all one family now, so why bother with a wedding? It\u2019s a waste of money, especially since it\u2019s your second marriage. There\u2019s no real need for another ceremony.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hank stepped out of the kitchen and firmly stated, \u201cI promised Jessica a grand wedding. I can\u2019t let her down. This may be my second marriage, but it\u2019s her first. Most women only get to wear a wedding dress once in their lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He couldn\u2019t change his mother\u2019s feelings toward Jessica, but he wouldn\u2019t back down on what he had resolved to do. <\/p>\n<p>He still had some money left. The funds he allocated for Jessica\u2019s renovations and the reception only represented half of his savings. Having lost his job due to Zachary\u2019s actions, he wasn\u2019t sure when he would find another one.<\/p>\n<div>How could he possibly spend all his money? He told Jessica that the marital home needed renovations and that they should furnish it simply because their funds were limited. If Jessica wanted to decorate it with more upscale items, she would have to pay for them herself.<\/div>\n<div>\u201cIf you had been as considerate toward Liberty back then, my grandson wouldn\u2019t have left my side either. Hurry up and tell me\u2014did Liberty run off with Sonny?\u201d<\/div>\n<div>Hank walked over to the sofa and sat down, asking, \u201cWhere\u2019s Dad?\u201d<\/div>\n<div>\u201cHe\u2019s playing chess at the neighbor\u2019s house. He seems to be having a great time\u2014he doesn\u2019t appear worried about anything.\u201d<\/div>\n<div>\u201cLiberty didn\u2019t run off with Sonny. Maybe she closed the shop because something urgent came up. I took Sonny to the park to play for a while. He\u2019s very happy.\u201d<\/div>\n<div>\u201cThat\u2019s good to hear.\u201d<\/div>\n<div>Mrs. Brown sighed in relief.<\/div>\n<div>Then she added, \u201cYou need to spend more time with Sonny to strengthen your relationship with him.
