This was the first time Alice noticed Elisa treating a man other than Zachary so warmly.<\/div>\n<div>Serenity chimed in, \u201cElisa and Mr. Johnson have met several times. She mentioned that their first encounter was on the road, where she blocked his path, but he stepped aside out of courtesy.\u201d<\/div>\n<div>Audrey added softly, \u201cMr. Johnson is an exceptional man. The men from his family are as distinguished as those from the York family; they just happen to live far away.\u201d<\/div>\n<div>A hush fell over everyone.<\/div>\n<div>Serenity pondered whether Elisa and Remy might become a couple. She then recalled that Remy lived in Annenburg, and as Audrey\u2019s only daughter, she would not want Elisa to marry someone so far away.<\/div>\n<div>She decided to stop dwelling on it.<\/div>\n<div>If a connection developed between Elisa and Remy, they would handle their own issues. Compared to what Zachary and she had faced, the challenges Elisa and Remy would encounter seemed minor.<\/div>\n<div>Interestingly, Remy had recently splurged on the house next to the Stone family\u2019s villa, reducing their distance from miles to just a wall apart.<\/div>\n<div>After bidding Remy farewell, Elisa returned home, saying, \u201cMom, Seren can walk naturally now. Let\u2019s go.\u201d<\/div>\n<div>Audrey encouraged Serenity to stand up and take a few steps to demonstrate. Once she confirmed that Serenity could walk easily, she rose to her feet. Alice followed suit, picking up the elegant clutch from the side and handing it to her mother-in-law.<\/div>\n<div>\u201cTake care at home, Alice. Even though\u2026<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019re still in the early stages of your pregnancy, and while your movements aren\u2019t yet affected, it\u2019s important to be cautious. Make sure to rest and let Clive stay with you. I\u2019ll take Elisa and Seren out now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll be careful, Mom. Have fun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Alice winked at Serenity and Elisa, but returned to a gentle expression when her mother-in-law looked her way. Together with her husband, she personally escorted the ladies out the door.<\/p>\n<p>Tonight\u2019s banquet was hosted by the Dowlings in celebration of their eldest daughter\u2019s eighteenth birthday.<\/p>\n<p>On the way there, Audrey asked Serenity various questions about the Dowling family. She felt satisfied when Serenity answered everything correctly. \u201cSeren, your memory is much better than Elisa\u2019s. She doesn\u2019t remember anyone she meets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s because I can\u2019t be bothered to remember. Why should I keep track of people I don\u2019t get along with?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Audrey playfully poked her daughter\u2019s forehead. \u201cSee, that\u2019s exactly what I meant. You won\u2019t be able to get married if you don\u2019t change that attitude of yours.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I can\u2019t get married, I\u2019ll just stay with you and Dad for the rest of my life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Serenity laughed. \u201cElisa is just fine as she is. I really like her personality.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Elisa didn\u2019t need to be smooth or charming; her confidence allowed her to be herself without trying to please others.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou two\u2026 I can\u2019t be bothered to nag you,\u201d Audrey said, her admonishment accompanied by a smile. She was genuinely happy that her only daughter got along well with her niece.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAunt Audrey, I\u2019ll be going back home this weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Audrey didn\u2019t question Serenity\u2019s reasons for going back; instead, she replied, \u201cWait for me. I\u2019ll come over there with your Uncle Darrell.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOkay. Zachary and I will probably\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Leave after breakfast. I need to purchase truckloads of bricks and gravel and travel tomorrow to bring them back. I\u2019ll explain that I intend to renovate or rebuild my parents\u2019 house.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Audrey was astute and recognized that Serenity was officially declaring war on her grandparents.
