You could use a distraction, and what better way to take your mind off things than to work? It will take more than a day or two to resolve the conflict between you and your wife.”

“Rushing things won’t help. All you’ll do is create more opportunities for mistakes,” he added.

It was evident that Zachary needed something to occupy his mind. Feeling helpless, he replied, “Just let me know if you want to skip work. Don’t use my need for information as an excuse.”

Josh chuckled. “I’ve worked hard for you for so many years. It’s time I took a couple of days off.”

His relationship with Jasmine had not progressed.

It was likely due to Zachary and Serenity that Jasmine had remained on the sidelines. Josh could sense Jasmine’s interest, but she was holding back her feelings for him.

Sigh!

Josh had accepted that it would be a long journey before he could bring home a wife. Only time would reveal his heart to Jasmine. One day, she would wholeheartedly welcome him into her life.

With a sense of determination, he set off.

Josh transferred all his work to Zachary.

He then went to a florist to pick up a bouquet of flowers and some of Jasmine’s favorite desserts from the bakery before heading to the bookstore.

While Elisa took Serenity to the hospital to check her injury, Jasmine remained at the shop. After cleaning up the bloody crime scene, she sat behind the cash register and read a book.

“You seem free,” a familiar, gentle voice interrupted her moment of peace.

Jasmine looked up at the sound and, upon realizing it was Josh, set down the

Holding a book in her hand, she smiled and asked, “What brings you here? Do you have nothing to do today?”

“I had to catch up on work that has been piling up since last year. I’ll be working overtime today, but I’ll be off tomorrow,” he replied.

Jasmine responded, “Oh, I thought you usually had the weekends off.”

“That’s typically the case, unless the workload increases significantly, as it has now. We’ll be working on Saturday and taking Sunday off,” he explained.

As Josh handed the flowers to Jasmine, he noticed a bouquet sitting by the computer and stared at it for a moment.

“That’s for Serenity from Mr. York,” Jasmine said, taking the bouquet from him.

Leaning in for a sniff, she stood up and approached a rack. She retrieved an empty vase from the top shelf, arranged the flowers inside, and placed the vase back.

“I brought you some of your favorite desserts,” Josh said, setting the treats on the table before taking a seat. Glancing down, he noticed the red-stained paper towels in the trash can beneath the table.

He quickly looked back up at Jasmine, concern evident on his face. “Why are there so many bloody paper towels in the can? What happened? Is that blood or paint?”

“It’s Serenity’s blood,” she replied.

Josh’s eyes widened in alarm. “Is Serenity hurt? Did Zachary do something to her?”

“She cut her finger with scissors. It must be a deep cut since the bleeding hasn’t stopped after she bandaged it. She wouldn’t let us examine her injury, so Elisa took her to the hospital to get it redressed,” Jasmine explained.

Josh understood all too well that Zachary was the cause of the trouble.

“That’s a lot of blood. The bloody paper towels indicate the cut is serious,” he said, pulling out his phone to take pictures for his tantrum-throwing boss.

Jasmine watched quietly.

and did not prevent Josh from taking pictures.

Chapter 881 Zachary wore a displeased expression and remained silent.
