After dinner, Zachary cleared the table while Serenity wiped down and tidied the dining area. She then stepped out of the dining room to sit across from her mother-in-law.<\/div>\n
Serenity glanced at the time and said, \u201cMom, why don\u2019t you drive the car into the driveway and stay the night?\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s alright. I\u2019ll head back shortly. Your father-in-law feels uncomfortable if I\u2019m not home with him,\u201d Tania replied.<\/div>\n
After their son took over the company, her husband retired and had not left Tania\u2019s side since. He struggled to adjust to Tania being away from home.<\/div>\n
Serenity envied her in-laws\u2019 relationship.<\/div>\n
They had been together for decades and remained devoted to each other in their golden years.<\/div>\n
\u201cMom, I had no idea Zachary bought this villa. He never mentioned it. I just found out now. This place is larger than the apartment in Brynfield. It feels empty with just the two of us here. Why don\u2019t you move in with Dad?\u201d<\/div>\n
Tania was surprised. \u201cYou want to live with your in-laws?\u201d<\/div>\n
Many young daughters-in-law opposed living with their parents-in-law.<\/div>\n

Serenity initially considered getting up to walk her mother-in-law to the car, but she decided to stay seated, believing that Tania and Zachary needed some time to talk privately. <\/p>\n

Zachary quietly accompanied his mother out of the house. <\/p>\n

Once they reached the gate, Tania paused and asked, \u201cZack, are you planning to spend the rest of your life with Serenity?\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cWhat do you mean, Mom?\u201d Zachary replied. <\/p>\n

\u201cYou know exactly what I mean. I won\u2019t interfere with your decision, but Serenity could use some lessons in etiquette. As the missus of the York family and your wife, she will attend social events with you, and her behavior reflects on you.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cIf she doesn\u2019t handle herself well, people might laugh at you. Can you discuss this with her? Is she open to improving her etiquette? Does she have any skills beyond crafting? She could certainly benefit from learning a few more.\u201d <\/p>\n

Zachary looked at his mother and asked, \u201cWhich part of her behavior do you think is lacking, Mom?\u201d <\/p>\n

Tania opened her mouth to respond, but no words came out. She felt that Serenity didn\u2019t present herself like someone from a wealthy family. However, Tania struggled to pinpoint what Serenity was actually missing. Serenity was generous, composed, and not an embarrassment to Zachary. <\/p>\n

After a moment, Tania said, \u201cI can help her when you\u2019re honest with her about who you are. She has the potential to improve her presentation.\u201d <\/p>\n

She then asked her son, \u201cAre you still married in name only? Three months should be sufficient time for you to assess Serenity\u2019s character if you plan to move forward with her.\u201d<\/p>\n

To spend a lifetime with her, you need to be genuine since she doesn\u2019t know who you are. The way she carries herself and addresses challenges reveals her true personality. <\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t get intimate with her if you\u2019re still unsure about your feelings. This way, it will soften the impact and hurt if you do end up getting a divorce.\u201d<\/p>\n

Zachary turned pale and exclaimed, \u201cMom, Nana said that York boys don\u2019t believe in divorce.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tania was left speechless.<\/p>\n

Ironically, he was the one who insisted on a divorce six months later. It was his choice, not hers, and Tania only learned about it afterward.<\/p>\n
