I haven’t worked or earned any income since I got married.”

“Your mother-in-law mentioned it. Liberty, my business is struggling and in the red. I’ve lost all my profits from the past years. I don’t have cash coming into the business, so I was hoping you could lend me a million dollars.”

Liberty sneered in anger.

These people had no boundaries.

They wouldn’t stop pestering her and Serenity.

“You should take a good look in the mirror and see if you can find your dignity, Mike. After everything you’ve done to me and my sister, you have the nerve to ask me for money?! That’s right, I do have a million dollars, but I won’t lend it to you. I’d rather give it to anyone else than you!”

“Oh, come on, Liberty. We’re family after all. You girls were stubborn back then. You didn’t make your husband pay us for family support. He married you without giving us a dime. Look where that got you. You should ask your future husband to cover our grandparents’ care so he feels responsible for the family and won’t abandon you.”

“Your future husband will only value you if he invests a sum of money to marry you. You don’t need the money you have now anyway. So why not lend me the million dollars? I’ll pay you back once my business recovers. Besides, you and your sister are the reason my business is failing.”

“My business wouldn’t be suffering if you hadn’t ruined me with your Twitter post. I’m losing money every day.”

“I’m not lending you a single dime!”

“Liberty…”

Liberty hung up on him.

With the phone slammed in his face, Mike

curse out their heart?”

“What did she say?”

His father asked, concern evident in his voice. “Is Liberty going to lend you the money?”

“Dad, you know she won’t do that. We’re not even on the best of terms. Even a good friend wouldn’t lend me a million bucks.”

Restless, Mike paced around the living room.

They were back in their hometown, and everything seemed to cost money. It was manageable when Mike’s business was thriving and he was generating a steady profit daily. However, now he was out of business and on the verge of losing his capital, forcing him to count every penny.

Old Mrs. Hunt would be discharged from the hospital and return home in two days. With the New Year approaching, she was eager to be home for the celebration.

The Hunts, except for Old Mr. Hunt who had been caring for his wife in the hospital, were living in their hometown and taking turns traveling to the city to care for her.

Oh, right. John was still in the city, searching for a job.

Unfortunately, many companies were on holiday for early Christmas and New Year, which made John’s job search difficult.

Stone Group had a significant influence over John’s prospects. Any company interested in hiring him would receive a call from Stone Group afterwards. As a result, these companies preferred not to cross Stone Group and would back out of hiring John.

John even attended interviews with companies that had conflicts with Stone Group, but the results were the same.

He spent some money to ask the human resources managers at these companies why they wouldn’t hire him. They explained that John had crossed someone, and any companies that employed him would become enemies.

When John inquired whether the person he had crossed was from Stone Group, the response was, “Did you curse out their heart?”

“Are you trying to annoy the Stone Group? Don’t you come from a farming town? Does your family own a farm? I suggest you consider a career in that field. At least you could make a living. It’s improbable that you’ll find a job here.”

Chapter 683 Liberty’s internal alarm bells went off.
