She walked over and kissed him gently on the cheek.<\/div>\n<div>With tenderness, she said, \u201cYou should go to bed now.\u201d<\/div>\n<div>Serenity then brushed her hand over his head.<\/div>\n<div>\u201cIs there a thermometer here? I want to check your temperature. You still feel warm. You\u2019re on IV drips and medication, yet your fever hasn\u2019t really subsided.\u201d<\/div>\n<div>Zachary replied honestly, \u201cI\u2019m not sure if there\u2019s a thermometer here either.\u201d<\/div>\n<div>\u201cI\u2019ll ask for one at the nurse\u2019s station.\u201d<\/div>\n<div>Serenity grabbed her phone and left the room.<\/div>\n<div>Just as she exited, Zachary\u2019s phone rang.<\/div>\n<div>It was Josh.<\/div>\n<div>Zachary answered the call.<\/div>\n<div>\u201cWhy aren\u2019t you asleep at this hour?\u201d<\/div>\n<div>\u201cI have a habit of checking my phone when I wake up. I saw your wife\u2019s message that she arrived safely. Since I was awake, I thought I\u2019d call to see how you\u2019re doing. Has your fever gone down?\u201d<\/div>\n<div>Zachary replied faintly, \u201cNot completely. The doctor said I need to stay in the hospital for a few days. They\u2019re just trying to make more money off me.\u201d<\/div>\n<div>This was the common mindset among patients. They often believed they weren\u2019t truly sick, and that doctors\u2019 orders for hospital observation were merely a ploy for profit.<\/div>\n<div>The esteemed Mr. York didn\u2019t care about money, but he despised lying in a hospital bed all day.<\/div>\n<div>He would have discharged himself first thing in the morning if Serenity hadn\u2019t come to visit.<\/div>\n<div>Now, he was stuck in bed for days.<\/div>\n<div>Zachary had never been hospitalized in his life.<\/div>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not like you don\u2019t have the money. Just listen to the doctor. I sent your wife over to take care of you. You can use this time to make amends with her.\u201d  <\/p>\n<p>Zachary grimaced. \u201cMake amends? Things are fine between us.\u201d  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHeh.\u201d  <\/p>\n<p>Josh had grown used to Zachary\u2019s stubbornness.  <\/p>\n<p>A certain someone had a massive argument with his wife over something trivial. That same someone had even given her the cold shoulder. Yet, he rushed back the moment he heard she was out drinking at a bar. Zachary had been contradicting himself from the start.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid the Stones send you an invitation to their party?\u201d  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah. I plan to attend. Don\u2019t worry, I won\u2019t betray you.\u201d  <\/p>\n<p>Zachary replied, \u201cSeren will think there\u2019s something between us if she hears you. I\u2019ll beat you up if you come between us.\u201d  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow can I come between you when your relationship is solid? I don\u2019t even have a wife yet, but I\u2019m working on it. I\u2019ll be the one in trouble if Ms. Sox thinks I have feelings for you.\u201d  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Stones invited Ms. Sox to the party as well,\u201d Josh added to clarify his presence at the event.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy wife is coming back. I\u2019m going to hang up now.\u201d  <\/p>\n<p>With his ears catching the familiar footsteps outside, Zachary told Josh, \u201cDon\u2019t call me unless it\u2019s an emergency while I\u2019m focusing on my recovery.\u201d  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour wife coming back doesn\u2019t interfere with our conversation, does it?\u201d  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m a patient now. My wife is strict and wants me to rest.\u201d  <\/p>\n<p>Josh was left speechless.  <\/p>\n<p>Why<\/p>\n<p>Did he get the impression that Zachary was showing off his relationship again? The guy was boasting about having someone who cared for him during his illness. Zachary hung up the phone, placed it down, and lay back as if nothing had happened, closing his eyes. He only opened them when Serenity entered the room. Serenity brought the thermometer and checked his temperature, noting the time as well. She then sat on the bed and pulled out her phone to watch videos.
