However, Zachary hung up the phone. Duncan muttered to himself, “What am I supposed to do if this leads to a fight between them?”

Once Zachary cared for someone, he expected that person to prioritize him. In simpler terms, he was quite overbearing. His domineering nature could sometimes make others feel loved, but at other times, it left them feeling suffocated, as if they couldn’t breathe.

What complicated matters further was Zachary’s tendency to feel guilty. He believed he had fallen in love with Serenity and was willing to do anything for her. However, Serenity was independent and didn’t share everything with him for assistance. Consequently, Zachary felt that Serenity didn’t trust him and didn’t consider him family.

Duncan tried calling Zachary again, but the call went to voicemail because the line was busy. “Did he call Serenity in the middle of the night to confront her?” Duncan wondered, feeling helpless.

He had only said a few words, yet it had spiraled into such a mess. Josh typically had a loose tongue, but he had never seen Josh create such chaos. Zachary actually reached out to Serenity.

The couple had just finished their call not long before, so Duncan guessed Serenity was still awake. Unable to resist, he decided to call her. Serenity was indeed awake. When her phone rang, she reached out from under the covers to grab it but quickly pulled her hand back.

After running the heater for a while, she found the air too dry and turned it off. There was no hot water bottle in Zachary’s room, and the natural source of warmth that he provided was…

She was on a business trip and had to bundle up to stay warm. She noticed that it was Zachary calling again. She answered the call, saying, “What’s up? I’m going to sleep.”

“What happened today?” Zachary asked, his voice low. Serenity had been getting along with him for a while and recognized that his tone indicated a shift in his mood.

She instinctively replied, “Nothing happened. I told you, I found out that Mrs. Stone is my aunt. What’s with that tone, Zachary? You sound like you’re interrogating me. I didn’t take advantage of your business trip to eat and shop with other men.”

“Aren’t you going to tell me about your sister? Even Duncan knows about it, and you’re not sharing, even though I’m asking. Serenity, do you not consider me family? You didn’t even mention something this significant.”

Serenity was taken aback. “My sister occasionally has conflicts with her former mother-in-law. Is that really such a big deal? We can handle it ourselves, so there’s no need to worry you. Besides, you’re away on a business trip. Are you planning to fly home and help us if I were to share?”

“Mr. Lewis is aware of it because he’s the boss of my sister’s company. Those two women confronted my sister outside her office building, and Mr. Lewis witnessed it as he was leaving work. I didn’t tell him on purpose. By the time I got there, my sister and those women had already fought, and the police were on the scene. I didn’t even have a chance to intervene.”

“I told you to inform me when you face difficulties!”

Serenity sat up, frustrated. ‘Did he not hear a single word I said? He’s fixated on the fact that I didn’t inform him about this situation.’

She replied patiently, “Zachary, I also mentioned that I will handle what I can manage on my own.”

There’s no need to trouble you, and I won’t rely on you completely. As I mentioned, even if I tell you something, you won’t be able to help me anyway. So why should I share it just to cause you worry?

“If you want to escalate this to the point of claiming that I don’t see you as family, then I can’t change that. But can you honestly say you’ve shared everything with me? I don’t even know where your hometown is. Doesn’t that suggest you don’t see me as family either?”

Zachary was taken aback.

“Zachary York, you’re a six-foot-tall grown man. Can you stop being so petty? Don’t let trivial matters make you angry and start bickering with me over everything. I know you care about me, but I’m not the kind of weak person who needs your help every minute of the day.

“If that’s what you expect from your wife, then I’m sorry, but I can’t do that.”

“Zachary, perhaps Serenity didn’t tell you because she didn’t want you to worry?” Duncan realized he might have made a […]

[20

post-12473","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-married-at-first-sight
["GET
