Serenity released Zachary and angrily pinched his arm.<\/div>\n
He frightened her.<\/div>\n
She feared they were entering another phase of the silent treatment.<\/div>\n
Zachary quietly endured her pinch. It hurt a lot, but he didn\u2019t mind.<\/div>\n
It felt good to know that she cared about him.<\/div>\n
\u201cShawn confessed his feelings for me, but I rejected him. I\u2019m your wife. I won\u2019t leave you unless you decide you don\u2019t want me anymore.\u201d<\/div>\n
\u201cReally?\u201d<\/div>\n
The thought of his hidden identity crossed his mind.<\/div>\n
Would she still stand by him if she discovered he had been lying to her all along?<\/div>\n

With a sigh, Zachary pulled her into his arms. \u201cSerenity, I was truly angry when I saw you with Shawn. My instinct told me to walk away. I know you weren\u2019t to blame; Shawn was all over you.<\/div>\n
\u201cThe truth is\u2026 I\u2019m jealous.<\/div>\n
\u201cI\u2019m consumed with envy. I\u2019m jealous thinking that Shawn loves you and that he\u2019s had the pleasure of knowing you for over a decade.\u201d<\/div>\n
Zachary hadn\u2019t known Serenity for long.<\/div>\n
His relationship with her couldn\u2019t compare to her decade-long bond with Shawn.<\/div>\n
Shawn got to know her and fell in love with her long before Zachary could.<\/div>\n
Zachary felt he was falling far behind Shawn in every single way.<\/div>\n
\u201cShawn and L. I told you before that he\u2019s like a younger brother to me. I don\u2019t have those kinds of feelings for him. We wouldn\u2019t have gotten married if I had romantic feelings for him.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI would have asked Shawn to provide my sister with peace of mind.\u201d <\/p>\n

Despite recognizing that Serenity was being honest, Zachary struggled to overcome his bitterness. Essentially, Serenity was implying that Zachary had no chance if she was interested in Shawn, suggesting he could leave and not return. <\/p>\n

\u201cAre you still jealous?\u201d <\/p>\n

Serenity lifted her chin and gazed at his scowling face. Amused, she pinched his cheek. \u201cHave you been cast by any talent scouts? You\u2019d make the perfect grinch without any makeup.\u201d <\/p>\n

Zachary took her hand and replied gruffly, \u201cI am.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cDidn\u2019t you say you didn\u2019t understand what jealousy was? I had to get you a dictionary for that.\u201d <\/p>\n

Zachary found himself at a loss for words. With nothing to say, he opted to lower his head and seal those enticing lips. <\/p>\n

Serenity noted that they were standing in front of his office building. Although it was working hours, people were still coming and going. She allowed him a quick kiss before gently pushing him away. <\/p>\n

\u201cTrust me, Zachary. I won\u2019t betray you while we\u2019re still legally married,\u201d she said softly. <\/p>\n

\u201cI trust you.\u201d <\/p>\n

Zachary kept his hands on her as they walked to her car, opening the door for her. \u201cGet inside. It\u2019s chilly out here.\u201d <\/p>\n

It was snowing in Meadspring, while the temperature had just begun to drop in Wiltspoon. After helping Serenity into the backseat, Zachary climbed in beside her. <\/p>\n

Once the door was shut, Zachary leaned over, pinning her to the seat as their tongues locked together. It took<\/p>\n

Several kisses helped to alleviate most of Zachary\u2019s jealousy. \u201cDon\u2019t meet with Shawn ever again,\u201d Zachary insisted. \u201cI know you don\u2019t love him, but that doesn\u2019t change the fact that he\u2019s in love with you. God knows what he might do to you since he can\u2019t have you.\u201d \u201cI\u2019ll take care of him if he gets too touchy.\u201d<\/p>\n
