He turned to the woman in front of him, who was perched on the balcony swing with her kitty. “Did you meet my mom without my knowledge?” he asked.

Serenity froze.

She hadn’t mentioned her encounter with her mother-in-law to him. How did he find out?

Zachary approached her and stood directly across from her. His intense dark eyes locked onto her lovely face as he repeated, “Did you meet my mom today?” Serenity noticed he was still holding his cell phone and assumed her mother-in-law had called to complain about her. She quickly clarified, “I ran into your mom while I was shopping for clothes for you. I wanted to say hello, but she might not have recognized me. She walked away with her friend, laughing and talking, so I didn’t greet her.”

Zachary was perceptive.

Tania was his mother. Although he was raised by his grandparents, he maintained a cordial relationship with his parents.

He understood his mother well.

She certainly didn’t want anyone to know that Serenity was her daughter-in-law. It was her way of helping him conceal his marriage, and it stemmed from her mixed feelings about Serenity. While she had nothing against Serenity as a person, she believed their backgrounds were too dissimilar.

His mother felt a sense of heartbreak for him. Among her nine grandsons, her son had to be the one who married Serenity as a gesture of gratitude.

After a brief silence, Zachary continued, “My mom is a bit nearsighted, but she doesn’t like to wear glasses. Even if she might recognize someone while out, she tends to look for cues from others. Unless she knows someone very well, she’ll just walk by.”

and pretends she doesn’t know them because she’s too afraid to greet them. Serenity understands now. “I see. It’s no wonder she saw me but quickly acted like she didn’t know me earlier. I couldn’t bring myself to greet her either because I was worried about creating an awkward situation.”

“I’ll tell Mom to wear glasses the next time she goes shopping, so we don’t encounter this again. When she got home, she thought the person resembled you and called to ask me about it. I was confused and assumed you two might have met,” she continued.

“You can suggest she wear contact lenses if she feels uncomfortable in glasses,” Zachary replied with a hum.

Noticing her fondness for the pets, he checked the time and asked, “Do you want to take them downstairs for a stroll around the neighborhood? We usually get busy and can only walk them when we get home at night.”

“Are you coming with me?” Serenity inquired.

Zachary’s gaze softened slightly. “Since I suggested it, I’ll honor my word as a gentleman and walk with you.”

Serenity laughed and picked up the little kittens.

The kittens were still adjusting to their new surroundings, so the couple decided not to take them out yet. Instead, they only took the dog downstairs for a walk.

Since moving in, the couple hadn’t had much time to explore the area.

Though it was nearing ten at night, the small garden within the community remained lively. Many children were so engrossed in playing that they refused to go home, requiring coaxing from their parents to leave. For some little ones who were too young for preschool, their parents allowed them to continue enjoying themselves.

The parents believed it would be easier to tuck their children into bed if they were tired from playing.

“How is your sister?

“What did she do after she got home?” Zachary inquired about his sister-in-law as they walked. “Let me know if you need assistance; I’ll do my best to help. You don’t need to be formal with me. We’re still husband and wife, so your problems are my problems too. Your sister is my sister as well, and I hold her in high regard.” Serenity glanced over at him.

Chapter 327 Once Zachary finished his call with his mother, he frowned in contemplation.
