Since his best friend married Serenity, and this plump woman was his best friend’s sister-in-law, Duncan decided he would not let Liberty pay for the repairs.

Liberty hadn’t intended for the incident to happen at all.

It was partly his fault for driving too fast.

Liberty felt nervous under his gaze. Holding her son tightly, she was about to speak when Duncan interrupted her with questions. “Why did you get so many things? Can’t you call your husband for help? Maybe you shouldn’t carry so much at once.”

“I’m a bit far from home, so I called my husband, but he was too busy to pick me up. I thought I could manage everything myself. I didn’t see the brick there, and the stroller tipped over when I hit it. I didn’t think you would knock into the can of formula that rolled out onto the road.”

Liberty murmured, “I had to tend to my child because he was crying. I didn’t have time to pick up the items scattered on the ground.”

“Mr. Lewis, it was an accident this time.”

After a brief silence, she added, “Would you let me pay just half for the repairs? It was an honest mistake, and you were driving too fast, so you’re also responsible for what happened.”

Duncan thought to himself, ‘Last time, I only asked her to pay nine thousand bucks for the damages because Zachary called me. Honestly, I had to cover much more of the repairs.’

Zachary hadn’t mentioned that he had married Serenity. If Duncan had known about the marriage, he wouldn’t have let Liberty pay a cent.

Duncan bent down to pick up the diapers.

Liberty stared at him in confusion.

Duncan placed all the diapers in his car and returned for the stroller, then told her, “Get in the car. I’ll drive you and your son home.”

The husband of this plus-sized woman must not treat her very well.

Despite her call for assistance, he was nowhere to be found. While work is important, is it truly more important than his wife and child?

If Duncan were in the husband’s position, he would be the first to arrive and tend to his wife’s needs.

However, Duncan suspected that her husband likely did not appreciate Liberty’s appearance.

She was indeed on the heavier side.

Instead of accepting Duncan’s offer, Liberty picked up her son and hurried to reclaim the stroller. Duncan watched her, puzzled.

“I appreciate your concern, Mr. Lewis, but I’m fine. I can slowly make my way home or call my sister to pick me up. She has a car, so you don’t need to drive us,” she explained.

Duncan understood her hint. Though he initially missed it, he now recognized that Liberty was on guard around him.

Amused, he replied, “I’m not a creep. I mean no harm. There’s no reason to be cautious with me. I just thought I’d offer you a lift since you’re carrying a child and a lot of things. After what happened last time, you should know that your brother-in-law, Zachary, is a friend of mine.”

Liberty was aware of that.

However, they were not related in any way. Moreover, getting a ride from him was the last thing she wanted, especially since their previous encounters had been under unfortunate circumstances.

“Get in. You may not be tired, but your child is. He’s about to fall asleep. How long will it take you to walk home?”

Liberty was about to refuse when fate intervened—it began to rain.

November was already chilly, and the rain made it feel even colder.

Although Liberty wore a short-sleeved shirt, she didn’t feel the chill, likely due to her insulating layer of fat.

“It’s raining. I don’t think

“You have an umbrella. Get in the car. A little rain might not affect you, but your son could catch a cold. You would feel terrible if he got sick,” Duncan said as he took the stroller and placed it in the car. Liberty paused for a moment before climbing into Duncan’s vehicle. “Ms. Hunt, I’m only doing this because Zachary is a friend. Don’t read too much into it.” “I’m not,” she replied.

Chapter 275 Duncan stared at Liberty, who had fallen silent.
