In a bid to keep Serenity close, Liberty poured a bottle of wine and enjoyed a glass with her sister until midnight, before allowing the couple to leave.

As a lightweight, Serenity quickly felt the effects of the stiff drink. By the time she left her sister’s home, she was tipsy, dizzy, and staggering with each step.

Liberty saw the young couple off at the door.

During her previous job, Liberty had attended social events with her boss and had learned to handle her liquor well enough to manage a glass of wine without issue.

“Zachary, Serenity is drunk. Please take good care of her,” Liberty urged her brother-in-law.

Liberty intentionally got her sister tipsy to prevent Serenity from seeking revenge on Hank.

She feared that if Serenity went to the Browns’ residence, they would gang up on her.

The Browns were just as unreasonable as Liberty’s own relatives.

“I will take good care of Serenity, Liberty,” Zachary assured her.

Zachary effortlessly helped Serenity down the stairs, but after she nearly stumbled multiple times, he ended up picking her up and carrying her.

“Why did you drink when you shouldn’t have? Your sister had a reason for that bottle of wine, yet you foolishly decided to drink,” he scolded.

Serenity wrapped her arms around Zachary’s neck and let out a belch. With the smell of alcohol invading his space, Zachary turned his head in disgust and said, “Don’t breathe your alcohol-laden breath on me. You reek.”

“I want to!”

Serenity pressed her face against his. “I’ll stink you to death! Why didn’t you stop me when you realized what your sister was up to?”

Zachary felt uneasy with her so close and almost pushed her to the ground.
“Serenity!”
Frowning, he exclaimed, “I know you’re still sober. Don’t even think about getting handsy!”
Serenity laughed softly and rested her head on his shoulder. “I want to get back at Hank for mistreating my sister. If I can’t go today, I’ll go tomorrow. I’ll storm into his office to confront him!”
“How can you say my breath smells? I didn’t complain about yours when you were drunk last time.”
Zachary grumbled, “I didn’t ask you to look after me when I was drunk, but now you need my help to carry you.”
Serenity replied quietly, “I didn’t ask you to carry me.”
Zachary was left speechless.
Well, no good deed goes unpunished.
After they descended the stairs, Zachary helped his inebriated wife into the car. To avoid her groping him, he put Serenity in the backseat so her wandering hands wouldn’t interfere with his driving.
Serenity didn’t mind; she lay down in the car and quickly fell asleep.
Zachary glanced back at her. Seeing she had dozed off without a care, he narrowed his eyes and kept quiet.
He drove his wife home in silence.
About halfway there, the woman in the backseat suddenly jolted awake and shouted, “Pigs will fly when men become dependable!”
Then she fell back down and resumed her beauty sleep.
Zachary turned to look at her again.
He sat in silence for a moment before his deep voice broke the quiet in the car. “Don’t judge all men the same way. It takes all kinds to make a world. Some men can’t be trusted, but there are dependable ones too.”
Zachary would be one of those reliable men if he were to fall for her.
Even if love didn’t exist between them, he would still do his best.

As a husband in the next six months, Zachary didn’t expect an answer from the woman in the backseat. Soon, they arrived back at Brynfield. Zachary parked the car, stepped out, and opened the backseat door. Leaning in, he called to the girl, “We’re home, Serenity. Time to get out.”

Chapter 147 Having only each other for many years, Liberty understood Serenity well enough to know her sister would stand […]

[20

post-11799","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-married-at-first-sight
["GET
